To all whom, it may concern: I

Be it known that L-PETER A. FLAK, a subject of the King of England, and resident of New York city, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Print- Card Clips, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a clip or holder having openings for the passage of a persons fingers, said clip being adapted to retain a folded card or sheet upon a board, table leaf or the like, in a smooth condition beneath openings in the clip or holder, to enable the fingers to be pressed upon the card or sheet through the openings in the clip for the purpose of accurately taking prints of the fingers.

My invention comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view of one side of one of my improved finger print card clips; Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a sectional perspective view illustrating my improved clip in position upon a card or sheet; Fig. 4 is a plan view, partly broken, of a modified form of the clip; Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5, 5, in Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a plan view of another modified form of my improved clip,.and Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7, 7 in Fig. 6.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

My improved clip 1 comprises a iece of suitable metal bent substantially lnto U- form adapted to receive the marginal portion of a board, table, or desk-leaf, or the like 2, and to retain a card, sheet or the like 3 upon board 2, so that said card or sheet may be folded over the edge of the board and be retained snugly thereon above and below the same as shown in Fig. 3. To facilitate applying clip 1 to the board or table leaf so that the card or sheet 3 will be snugly held upon the same, as when the clip is pushed along the same, the edges of the material of the clip are bent outwardly at 1 and are preferably folded back at 1", the extreme edges 1 of the clip being both at the same distance from the folded edge of the clip as shown in Figs. 5 and 7. One

side or wall of the clip is provided with five spaced openings (1, b, c, d, e, through which the fingers may pass to print them upon card or sheet 3. The outer edges L of the clip adjacent the openings are cut inwardly sufiiciently far to clear the corner of board or table leaf 2 so that the inked fingers will not drag on the metal of the clip. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 the opposite sides or walls of the holder or clip are provided with similar openings, the openings a, b, 0, cl, 6, being shown in Fig. 1 in one side or wall of the clip, and the corresponding opposed openings a, b, c, d, e, in the opposite wall of the clip, whereby either side of the clip may be used to print from the four fingers and the thumb. In Figs. 4 and 5 one side of'the holder or clip is provided with five openings at, b, 0, (Z, 6, and the opposite side ofthe clip is provided with two spaced openings (1, 6, larger than the openings a, b, c, d, e, adapted to accommodate two or more fingers each for printing upon the card or sheet. The four fingers and thumb may be printed and properly spaced by using the clip with the openings a, 6, c, d, e, upwardly, or by turn ing the clip over the larger openings at, 6, will be uppermost, through which several of the fingers may be simultaneously printed on the card or sheet held by the clip.

In Figs. 6 and 7 the clip is provided with openings at, b, 0, d, e, on one side only, the opposite side not being provided with openings for the fingers.

To use my improved finger print card clip or holder, the card is laid upon the board or table leaf with a portion of the card preferably projecting beyond the edge of the latter, then one edge 1 of the clip is placed against the card and the clip swung down and pushed along the card to embrace the latter and board or leaf 2, whereby the card is folded and snugly held between the board and the clip. The uppermost openings in the clip or holder then expose the card in the proper places to permit the fingers to be printed upon the card or sheet while the latter is held snugly so as to take proper impression from the fingers. With the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, either side of the clip may be used for the four fingers and thumb, while with the form shown in Figs. 4 and 5, if it is desired to print four fingers and thumb the clip will be applied in the manner stated with the openings a, b, c, d, 6, uppermost, but if it is desired to take prints of fingers more closely than would be desirable through the last named openings, then the clip will be turned with the larger openings a, e uppermost upon the card. In the form shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the openings only in one side are utilized with the four fingers and thumb.

thereby facilitating the application of the clip to the card and enabling the locating of the card in folded condition upon the board or shelf in a most convenient and I simple manner.
