BLOTTEPJ.
Application filed April 21, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE D. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Riverside, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blotters, of which the following is a specification.
The hereinafter described invention relates to that type of blotters employed for advertising purposes, that is such blotters as contain printed advertising matter and which are distributed free of cost to users thereof. With these blotters it is purely accidental whether the printed advertising matter appearing on one face thereof is displayed to view while lying on a desk and in fact when utilized by the user thereof, inasmuch as either face of the blotter is equally as well adapted for the absorption of ink; consequently, to a great extent the blotter loses its value as an advertising medium. The object of the present invention is to provide an attachment for blotters designed for advertising purposes which will insure the printed matter appearing thereon being face up, that is at all times exposed to View, thereby. enabling the advertiser to obtain the full benefit of the mat ter sought to be brought to the attention of the user, and by so doing avoiding the useless expenditure of money at present following the printing of advertising matter on blotters circulated to merchants and offices free of expense.
To comprehend the invention reference should be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ordinary desk blotter with the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the blotter partly broken away.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 is used to indicate an ordinary desk blotter, containing or having printed on one face thereof suitable advertising matter or the name of the advertiser, designated in Fig. 1 of the drawings in dotted lines. To this face of the blotter, preferably adjacent one end thereof is applied the attachment, which in the present case comprises a suitable iinger or hand piece 2, provided with the base or foot extensions 3 laterally projected Specification of Letters Patent.

therefrom and which are pasted or otherwise secured to the face of the blotter containing the advertising matter.
The finger or hand piece 2 constitutes the body member ofthe attachment and is designed to upwardly project from the face of the blotter a slight distance, sufiicient to provide against the face of the blotter to which t is applied being used as the blotting surface, while the laterally extended members 8 insure stability for the body memher and a secure attaching medium therefor. Preferably, the attachment is formed of any suitable flexible material, such as paper or leather, although celluloid or similar material may be utilized in the formation thereof. or. if desired, thin metal may be employed. The body member is formed in the present case flat and somewhat greater in length than in height although such is an immaterial feature. The face surfaces of the body member 2 may have suitable matter printed thereon indicative of the article or work to which it is desired to direct attention.
By reason of the fact that the attachment projects a distance above the face surface of the blotter containing the printed advertising matter, the blotter will lie with said face exposed or uppermost when positioned for use, so that the advertising matter will be in full view of the user thereof, which is the object to be attained.
The attachment is simple, inexpensive and easily applied to the printed face of the blotter, provides a finger piece for grasping and holding the blotter and in sures the advertiser obtaining constant exposure of the advertised matter during use ge of the blotter.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be protec'ted, is
A finger or ,o'rip attachment for advertising blotters, the same comprising a body member formed of a single sheet of relatively stiff paper centrally cut inwardly from one side edge to approximately its center to provide a pair of foot members formed integral therewith and each of a length approximately one-half of the total length of the body, said members adapted to be bent on a longitudinal line toward op- Patented May 23, 1922.. era-11y from each face of the body providin a uniform support at opposite sides and once of the body, and a finger rest at oppo- 10 site sides of the body.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
GEORGE D. PARKER.
