HAND STAMP.
Application filed June 28,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. RAUoH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York (borough of Manhattan), in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hand Stamp, of which the following isv a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a new and improved form of stamp and has for an object a stamp which can be very conveniently placed in any mail package or envelope to be shipped through the mail.
A further object resides in a provision of a stamp which is simple and compact and can be very readily carried around in a pocket.
A still further object resides in the particular construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings of which Figure 1 is a planyiew of the stamp.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a transverse vertical section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
This invention in its preferred form and as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a long narrow thin sheet of metal or other backing 1, preferably of aluminum. A pair of ear portions 2 are struck up integrally from the middle of the body portion 1 and form sockets for a handle portion 3, the ends 4 of which project and engage in the ear portions 2. This handle portion is in the form of a curved bent wire 3 which pivots around the ear portions 2 and can lie flat against the surface of the plate 1.
Beneath the plate 1 is a facing of resilient material, preferably soft, sponge rubber. This facing 5 is connected to the backing or plate 1 by any suitable means such as a binder. A layer of hard rubber or other suitable material 6 is placed against the facing 5 and is suitably formed in any well known manner with letters or figures 7 1921. Serial No. 481,014.
forming the impression. These two layers of material 5 and 6 can be connected by adhesive or any other desired manner.
The plate 1, the facing 5 and the layer 6 are all made thin and are rather long and narrow. The handle 3 is loosely pivoted in the ears 2 so that it can lie flat against the plate 1. In this position the entire unit occupies exceedingly small space so that it can be slipped into a vest pocket or into an envelope for shipment through the mails.
This sort of stamp is particularly advantageous to a merchant who wishes to send stamps provided with his name and address to shippers at distant points who send things to him so that they can mark his name on their goods at the point of shipment.
hat I claim is 1. A stamp comprising a thin backing plate, an impression surface disposed on said backing plate, and a handle pivoted to the backing plate and adapted, when not in use, to lie flat against the surface of the backing plate, whereby the device will occupy small space for shipment.
2. A stamp comprising a thin backing plate, integral struck-up ear portions thereon, a handle having end portions engaging said ear portions and loosely pivoted therein, said handle adapted, when not in use, to lie flat against the backing, whereby the device will occupy small space for shipment.
3. A stamp comprising a long, narrow, thin backing plate, an impression surface disposed thereagainst, integral ear portions struck up from the backing plate forming sockets, and a handle having end portions loosely pivoted in said sockets, said handle adapted, when not in use, to be disposed flat against the face of the backing plate.
4. A stamp comprising a long, narrow, thin backing plate, integral ear portions struck up from the backing plate forming sockets, and a handle having end portions loosely pivoted in said sockets, said handle adapted, when not in use, to be disposed flat against the surface of the backing plate.
SAMUEL ABRAHAM RAUCH.
