Description
Dec. 11 1923; 1,477,274. I
A. L. MALLORY CORN ERADICATOR Filed Oct. 10 1922 /fl E f me Patented Dec. 11, 1923.
AARON L. MALLORY, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
CORN EBAIDICATOB.
.Application filed October 10, 1922. Serial No. 593,532.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, AARON L. MALLORY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corn Eradicators, of which the following is a specification.
In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide a corn eradicator which will be constructed in such manner that the same may be firmly gripped by the hand when in use and wherein the hand hold may be folded out against the back of the base portion when not in use, so that the eradicator may be conveniently stored when not in use.
It is also my purpose to provide a corn eradicator which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efiiciency and durability, which may be manufactured and marketed at small cost and which may be easily and conveniently handled.
WVith the above recited objects in view, and others of a similar nature, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and fall-.
ing within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: g V
Figure l is a plan view of a corn eradicator constructed in accordance with my invention, the hand hold being shown folded.
Figure 2 is a sectional View on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure A is a perspective view showing the parts in openposition.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 1 designates the base member composed of any material and of any desired size and shape. The lower surface of this base board 1 is covered with a medicated abrasive ele ment 2 which may be in the nature of a fine grade of sand paper. The other side of the base member 1 has securedthereto centrally thereof by an adhesive a sheet of paper 3. The ends of the paper 3 are free of the base and fastened to the upper sides of the end portions by an adhesive are finger holds 4-4, which, in the present instance, are in the nature of thin strips of card board or the like. Also pasted upon the paper 3 adjacent to one edge thereof between the finger holds 4: is one-half of a strip of paper 5. The other half of this strip of paper 5 is free of the base and fastened thereto by an adhesive is a brace strip 6 formed of card board or similar material. The under sides of the'brace board 6 and the finger hold A at the outer edges are formed with fingernail engaging notches 7.
In practice, when the eradicator is not in use, the finger hold 4 and the brace strip 6 are folded down against the back of the base, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings. When it is desired to use the eradicator the finger holds are swung upwardy right angles to the base and the brace strip 6 also swung upwardly between the finger hold 4, as clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawings. holds are braced so that the same may be firmly grasped when it is desired to usethe eradicator.
l have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention with a view to imparting. a full, clear and exactunderstanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the said specific construction and relative arrangement of parts, inasmuch as in the future practice of my invention such changes or modifications may be made as fairly fall within the scope of my invention as defined by my appended claim.
Havin thus described the invention, what 2" is claimed as new, is A corn eradicator comprising a base, a medicated abrasive element on one side of the base and finger holds pivoted on the other side of the base adjacent to the ends of said base and capable of swinging movement against the base when not in use and away'from the base to positions at right angles to the base, and a brace strip pivoted to the base'between said finger holds and movable from a position against the base to a. position at right angles to the base and to said finger holds to brace the latter.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
AARON L. MALLORY.
Thus, the finger
