Patented Mer., 23, 1926.
UNITED STATES LOUIS C. BAUMAN, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DESK BLOTTER.'
Application led November 6, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Louis C. BAUMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Desk Blotters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will -enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to protective coverings for desks, tables and the like. and has for its object the provision of a blotter f which may be folded into compact form and which may be easily and quickly extended for use and which will lie dat and close against the desk, table or other surface without any tendency to curl, buckle or warp.
Another object of the invention is to provide in connection with the blotter, an open-- ing therethrough adapted to accommodate an inkwell which will serve as an anchor to prevent undue or unauthorized movement of the blotter over the surface of a desk or the like.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application:
Figure l is a top plan view of a folding desk blottcr embodying the invention, the same being extended,
Figure 2 is a similar view having the upper portion of the blotter folded upon the lower half,
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 8-3 of Figure l,
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure l, the blotter being reversed,
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of the blotter folded, and
Serial No. 673,118.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6 6 of vFigure 5, the two quarters being partly open.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The blotter may be of any size usually provided for a desk, table or the like, and in accordance with the present invention is cut vertically and laterally on central lines to provide like quarter sections designated by the numerals l, 2, 3 and 4, respectively. The sections l and 2 and 3 and 4 are connected by means of a binder strip 5 of suitable material, such as fabric, which is preferably attached to a side thereof by a suitable adhesive. The sections 2 and 4 are connected by means of a similar binding strip 6 and the sections 1 and 3 by a binding strip 7. To obviate a hump at the center of the blotter, the several binding strips do not cross but approach so that the inner ends of the strips 6 and 7 abut the longitudinal edges of the strip 5. An opening 8 is provided at one corn-er of the blotter to receive the usual ink bottle applied to a school desl.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the invention provides a blotter which may be folded int-o compact form, as indicated in Figure 5, and which when extended will lie fiat and close against the desk, table or like surface without any tendency to curl, warp or buckle.
Vhat is claimed is:
A folding desk blotter comprising four sections, a binding strip connecting inner adjacent ends of the four sections, and other binding strips connecting` the inner ends of the sections upon opposite sides of the first mentioned binding strips without crossing' the latter, said strips being exposed at the lower surface of the blotter for engagement with the desk and one of the sections having an opening therethrough to accommodate an ink bottle.
In testimony whereof I athx my signature.
LOUIS C. .BAUh/IAN.
