UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. AUSMUS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO PROTECTED REFILL COR- PORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION NOTEBOOK COVER AND STAND.
Application filed December 26, 1924. Serial No. 758,242.
This invention relates to a combination note-book cover and stand and has for its primary object the construction of an inexpensive article that may be readily set up 5 for supporting a note-book when transcribing and may be readily collapsed for covering the notebook or supporting the same when taking dictation.
Another object of the invention is the use 10 of a novel construction of clip in the combination so that the note-book will be effectively supported in the combination with an inexpensive means for holding the used leaves of the note-book in a non-obstructing position.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device in set up position.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly collapsed.
Fig. 3 is an edge elevation.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view on the 25 line 44 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an edge elevation of the device collapsed to cover the note-book.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of the device collapsed to the extent of forming a stiff back for the note-book.
Fig. 7 is a. detailed view of a slight modification.
Again referring to the drawings illustrating one of the many constructions of my in- 'vention it will be noted that the device is formed from a plurality of sections and, for the sake of clearness, the section 1 is designated as the bottom section, section 2' is the front section and section 3 is the back section. These sections are flexibly connected together in various ways such as by the flexible material 4 while the lower edge portion 5 of the front section is removably mounted in the groove 6 in the bottom section and if an adjustable connection is desired there may be formed a plurality of grooves as indicated at 7 in Fig. 7. I have illustrated a special design of clip 8 having a back 9 secured to the front section and the clamping flange portion 10. The back secthe pocket as the same is turned back upon the section 3. In the use of the device the various sections may be folded as illustrated in Fig. 5 to cover and protect the note-book or they may have the relative arrangement as shown in Fig. 6 to provide a stiff back for the note-book when taking dictation. In transcribing, the sections will be extended and set up as shown in Fig. 1 so that the note-book will be supported at the proper inclination and as the leaves are used they are folded over the device and inserted in the pocket, the walls of which retain the leaves in position.
Of course, it will be understood that the sections may be formed of cheap material such as cardboard over which is arranged a covering as illustrated in the drawing or may be of stamped metal or in fact formed in various Ways of various materials and therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A combination book cover and stand including a front section, a back section, a flexible connection between adjacent edge portions of the front section and the back section to permit the sections to be inclined toward each other, and a member carried by the back section defining a pocket having a mouth extending diagonally across the back section.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
