MGNTHLY STATEMENT atten/vm;
UNTTEU STATE@ PATENT FFT@F ROBERT E. WIGG-INS, OF NATCHEZ, MISSISSIPPI.
VVRITING-PAD HOLDER.
Looeee.
To all whom it 'may concern.
Be it known that T, ROBERT E. `WioeiNs, citizen of the United States, residing at Natchez, in the county of Adams and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in VVriting-Pad Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in writing pad holders, and the primary` object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this class primarily adapted for use by bookkeepers for holding blank statements in pad form so as to prevent the leaves of the pad from bending and enabling the bookkeeper to keep his statement close to the figures and items upon his ledger from which he has drawn off the statement.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a device for holding a pad of statements or the like so that the bookkeeper has a level surface to write on, and whereby a blank statement may be positioned near the account from which the bookkeeper is making a statement or bill so that the eyes of the bookkeeper are rested and a considerable amount of time saved.
With the above, and other objects in view, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1.
is a view of the device constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. l
Tn the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates the improved writing pad holder. This writing pad holder is preferably constructed of a single blank of rectangular material, such as metal or the like and the said blank has all of its edges rolled for preventing the scratching of the desk upon which the device is positioned.
The rectangular body member 1 is provided with a pair of longitudinally extending parallel spaced slots or openingsQ, and the said slots or openings are adapted to aline with similar slots 0r openings 8 provided upon a transversely arranged strip 4. This strip 4 which serves as the pad holding member has its opposite ends connected with the member Specification of Letters Patent.

1 and its body portion free thereover. The pad holding member 4 is preferably constructed of some resilient material, so that the body of the same may be readily bent to position the pasteboard back 5 of a pad 6 between the said strip and the body member 1. By this arrangement, it will be noted that the cardboard back of the pad 6 is effectively sustained upon the member 1 and that the leaves of the said pad will rest firmly upon the cardboard backing. Tn order to provide for the retaining of different sized writing pads in an adjusted position upon the member 1, I provide a pair of slidable stop members 7 and 8. These stop members 7 and S are preferably constructed of some ieXible material, such as rubber or the like, and each of the stop members is preferably of a cross-sectional rectangular formation, so as to snugly engage with the sides of the pad. Secured to each of the stop members 8 is an adjusting screw 9, the same having its headed portion engaging the walls adjacent the slot 2 in the body 1 and being projected through the slot 3 of the holding strip 4 as well as through the stop blocks 7 and 8. The threaded extensions of these headed threaded members are engaged by suitable wing nuts 10 and 11. By this arrangement, it will be noted that pads of different widths may have their edges rmly engaged by the stop blocks 7 and 8.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that I have provided an eX- tremely simple and thoroughly effective device for the purpose intended, and while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of the improvement, as it now appears to me, changes in minor details of construction, within the scope of the following claims may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus fully described the invention, what T claim as new is 1. A. holder for writing pads comprising a flattened body member having its edges rounded, a resilient strip having its ends secured to the edges of the body adapted to retain the writing pad upon the said body, both the strip and body having longitudinally extending registering slots arranged adjacent the opposite edges of both the body and the strip, blocks upon the strip, and
headed threaded members passing through adjustable stop blocks upon the strip, subthe openings of the body and strip and enstantially as and for the purpose set forth, 10
gagng the said blocks. In testimony whereof I afliX my signa- 2. A holder for Writing pads comprising ture in presence of two Witnesses.
a body member, a resilient strip having its ROBERT E. WIGGINS.
opposite ends secured to opposite edges of Witnesses:
the body, the central portion of the strip WV. L. VILSON RUMBLE,
being free from the body and longitudinally W. H; STEWART.
