UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIE SPECKEL, OF ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA.
DEVICE FOR SECURING COPY-BOOKS IN THE CORRECT POSITION FOR WRITING EXERCISES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIE SPECKEL, a citizen of the Russian Empire, residing at St. Petersburg, in the Russian Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Copy-Books in the Correct Position for \Vriting Exercises; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The present invention has for its object a device for securing copy books and the like in the correct position for practicing writing and consists of a detachable connection between the support for the copy book such as a blotting pad or the like, with the lid or top of the desk or the like of such a kind that the support can be brought closer to or farther away from the writer without altering his or her normal oblique position.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a plan view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line AB of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view on a reduced scale showing a copy book or writing pad secured to the support, and Fig. 4:.is a plan view of a modified form of the device.
The book or pad support 5 such as a plate of wood, sheet metal, cardboard or the like is provided at a suitable position on its lower face with a rib 1 which is guided in a rectilinear slot or groove 3 in a base such as a desk lid 2. If the rib l is provided on the left or right hand edge of the support or if it runs parallel therewith the groove 3 in the desk receives the direction GH of the normal inclination of the copy book or of the support 5 toward the left hand. The direction of this groove 3 may, however, be difierent, provided that the rib 1 is arranged on the support in such a manner that when the two parts have been engaged the support assumes the normal inclined position shown in the drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 12, 1911.
Patented Dec. 26, 1911.
Serial No. 620,706.
The copy book, writing pad, a sheet of paper or the like 6 (Fig. 3) is secured by any suitable clamping device 4 to the support 5 at the top left hand corner.
The main purpose of the device is to facilitate writing practice and to prevent the scholars from assuming a position prejudicial to health.
What I claim is 1. A device for securing copy books and the like in the correct position for practicing writing, comprising a support for the copy book, means for securing the same on the support, a rib on the lower face of the latter adapted to be guided in a rectilinear groove or slot in the lid or desk, in such a manner that the copy boo-k can be brought closer to or farther away from the writer in the normal oblique position.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a base member; of a support for writing material slidably mounted thereon, and means to guide said support on the base to and from the writer in the normal oblique position.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a base member provided with a rectilinear guide, a support for writing material slidably mounted on the base and a guide on the support cooperating with said rectilinear guide, whereby the support.
is maintained on the base in a normal oblique posltlon.
l. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a base member having a rectilinear slot therein, a pad support mounted on the base, a rib on the lower face of the support, movably mounted in the slot, and a clamp on the support to secure the pad to the latter.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIE SPEGKEL.
