Description

June'ls, 1925. l i,542,717

T o all 'whom t may/cecem:
. ..1 :museaY Appnatio filed June 4,
Be it known that I, ISAAC M. PnAsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Truss, of which the following is a specification. u
4This invention aims to provide a novel means whereby the rear ends of a body-encircling trussl spring may be assembled slidably with the back pads,- thereby enabling the ends of the spring to work upon the pads when the wearery stoops, bends. or assumes any other unusual posture, it being possible to hold the pads iXedat the will of thek wearer.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and'to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the of a body-encircling truss spring, having devices constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
The numerals 1 and 2 denote the ends of a body-encircling truss spring. The securing element 3 holds a link 4@ on the end 1, the link carrying one end of a longitudi` nally extensible strap 5, provided with a slit 6 whereby the strap 'may be assembled with a securing element on the end 2, the securing element beingconstructed like the securing element '3. For vconvenience in claiming the invention the link 4 and the strap 5 may be alluded to generally as a connection. V'The securing elements 3 and 7 project beyond the inner surface of the ends 1 and 2 of the truss spring, as denoted by the numeral 8 in Figure 3. t
Slides 9 are mounted for reciprocation on the ends 1 and 2' ofthe truss spring longitudinally of the said ends, the slides having 1.92.3, Visi-,nai No. 641.34418.'Y
fianges'ldwhich overhang the ends land 2 ofthe truss spring, longitudinally of the said ends, as clearly shown in Figure 2. The movement of the slides 9 inwardly,
that is toward each other is limited by the ends 8 of the securing elements 3 and 7, outward movement of the slides, in opposite directions being limited bv the ends of the covering 11 wherewith the truss spring is surrounded, this covering being made of hard rubber or any other suitable material. Back pads 12 of any desired construction are attached as at 14 in any suitable way to the slides 9, the swiveled connection shown in Figure 2 being resorted to if considered expedient.
In practical operation, the slides 9 are set approximately in the positions shown in connection with the slide at the right hand end of Figure 1, the result being that when the wearerstoops, bends, or assumes any other unusual posture, the ends 1 and 2 of the truss spring will reciprocate in the slides 9, the back pads 12 remaining in place in contact with the body of the wearer.
It is to be understood that the pad may be of any desired kin-d either hard rubber Celluloid, leather covered, rubber covered, or of any other form. The back pad is disposed close to the spring and lies almost flat against the spring.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a truss spring, a slide mounted for reciprocation on one end of the spring, separate means carried by the spring for limiting the movement of the slide in opposite directions, vone of said means being removable, a pad carried bythe slide, and means `assembled with the slide for holding the slide against movement at any position between the limits of its movement.
2. In a device of the class described, a truss spring, studs carried by the truss spring, slides mounted on the truss spring, the stu-ds constituting means for limiting the movement of the slides toward each other, means on the truss spring for limiting the sliding movement of the slides away from each other, a .linko mounted pivotally on one stud, and a connecting element assembledkwith the link and engaged with the other stud and pads fastened to the slides. 3. Ina device of the class described, a truss spring, a slide mounted to reciprocate on one end of the truss sprinlsjhaA stud on saidend of the truss spring', A linkc'rried by the stud, aV connection assembled with the link, means for uniting the connection de"- tachably with the other end o"- tie truss spring, a slide mounted to reciprocate on the irst specified end of the truss spring and limited in its sliding. movement, in one direction, by the stud', 'mns for limiting 10 the sliding movement of the slide in an opposite direction, and a. pad carried by the slide:
in testimony that I claim the foregoing :is my' own, I have hereto aiixed my signa tui-e inu the presence of tWo Witnesses.
ISAAC M. PEASE.
