Description

I. N. BEERY, Jn' ABDOMINAL 'SUPPORTEB. APPLICATION mm APR. 13,.1920.
1,366,897. merited Eeb,1,,1921.
UNITED STATES ISAAQN. BEERY, JR. 0F HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA.
ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
Application filed April 19.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known. that I, ISAAC N. Bunny, J12, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisonburg, in the county of Rockingham and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Sup porters, of which the following is a speciiication.
The object of my present invention is the provision of an abdominal supporter that is, at once, extremely simple and inexpensive in construction and highly eflicient in operation, and the latter without being uncomfortable, irrespective of whether the wearer is standing, steeping or is seated.
The invention also contemplates the provision of an abdominal supporter of such construction that the elastic members, which are the only parts likely to wear out after a short period of use, may be expeditiously and easily replaced by new elastic members at small expense and without the employment of skilled labor.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure l is a perspective of the abdominal supporter constituting the best practical embodiment of my invention of which I. am cognizant.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the front member of the supporter.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the back member.
Fig. 4 is an elevation of one of the elastic connecting members of the supporter; there being by preference, four of saidv members; two at each side of the supporter.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all. of the views of the drawings.
The front member 1 and the back member 2 of the supporter are preferably formed of thin and pliable leather in. about the shapes" and comparative sizes illustrated. On its forward side and at points adjacent to its endsthe member 1 is equipped with buckles 3, the said. buckles being preferably, though not necessarily, carried at the ends of a strap l that is stitched or otherwise permanently attached to the member 1 at the forward side thereof.
At its rear side and at points spaced from Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
1920. Serial No. 374,976.
of the supporter are adjustably connected to y the front and back members through the medium of the buckles 3 and 5, respectively. Manifestly when the supporter is in use, the said elastic connecting members or straps 6 are adapted to lay in the hollows of the hips of the wearer in which positions they will adequately retain the members 1 and 2 in proper working position and will effectively hold the same against upward movement when the wearer is sitting or is in a stooping posture, and this without subjecting the wearer toany discomfort whatever.
By virtue of the elastic members or straps 6 beingemployed in pairs, as is preferred, they lend ample strength and resiliency to the supporter, and permit of the same being readily adjusted to persons of different sizes and shapes, and when any one or more of the members 6 become worn the same may be expeditiously and easily removed and as readily replacedwith new elastic members.
Also by virtue of its peculiar shape and construction my invention reduces to a minimum the pressure upon the hips and fixes the pressure upon the abdomen, whereas other supports of which I have knowledge, do not adequately produce this effect. Especially is this true when worn by a slender person, in which case the pressure is usually greater upon the hips than upon the abdomen.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An abdominal supporter comprising a front member of thin. pliable material, a back member, buckles carried at the front of the front member and spaced from the ends and edges thereof, buckles carried at the rear side of the back member and spaced from the ends and edges thereof, and elastic members adjustably secured in the buckles and extending outside of and between and connecting the front and back members at the sides of the supporter; the buckles of the front member being connected to the ends of a strap permanently attached to the front side of the front member, the buckles of the back member being connected to the ends of a strap permanently attached to the rear side of said member, and the interposed elastic members being arranged in pairs, one pair at each side of the supporter and 10 made up of side by side straps.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
