To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY P. JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Pad Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

This invention relates to drawing pad devices.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide for the use of a mechanical, architectural or other sketcher, a manifold pad of tracing or opaque paper for preliminary work, having printed on the margin of each sheet a graduated scale, which will enable the sketcher to proportion his figures without the use of a rule, thus saving time.

Another object is to provide a drawing pad which is adapted to the use of a T-square and triangle, having detachable printed strips at the margin of the sheet, which the sketcher removes before filing the same away. leaving the body of the sheet of a standard size.

With these and other objects, one embodiment of this invention is illustrated in the drawings, the construction is described, its use explained and what I claim is set forth.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a drawing pad device embodying my invention.

Fig. 2 is a plan of a detached sheet showing a sketch thereon, ready for filing, having the graduated marginal strips removed.

In the figures, 1 is a thin drawing board, which may be made of any suitable wall board or wood or such material as will receive tacks. Under the four corners of the drawing board 1, I preferably provide rubber pads 2, which serve, by their friction, to keep the board 1 from shifting on a table, while being used. Upon the board 1, is tacked. the backing 3 of the pad4c; the sheets 5 of which pad are glued together at the top 6. Each sheet 5 has narrow marginal strips 5 and 5" at adjoining edges, which are separable from the body of the sheet 5 at the perforated lines 7 and are divided preferably into inches, halves, quarters, and eighths, while I also provide an intermediate subdivision of one-sixth inch each, indicated by the rows of dots D, the spacing of which is the same as typewritten matter.

In using this pad device, the T-square 8 and triangle 9 serve in the ordinary way as guides in drawing, while the graduations aid in dimensioning ofi the lines of the figure which is drawn upon the body of the sheet 5. After the drawing or sketch is complete, the marginal strips 5 and 5 are removed from the body of the sheet 5, leaving the sheet of some regular size, such as 8% X 11, convenient for filing away, as is shown in Fig. 2, the edges '7 being those from which the marginal strips 5 and 5 are torn.

Such a pad is also serviceable for tabulating and such vertical lines as 10, 11 and 12, may be spaced in accordance with the subdivisions of the strip 5 while horizontal lines as 13, may be drawn preferably spaced one-sixth of an inch apart, using the dots D for guiding the spacing of such lines, as may be required for writing on the pad. 14, is a sample design sketched upon the sheet 5.

With the detachable strips 5 and 5 subdivided into convenient divisions printed thereon for guides, and the pad being of such construction in connection with the drawing board of the size, as to lend itself ience always, a fresh sheet of paper ready for a new sketch without the necessity of each time tacking a separate sheet to the drawing board before he begins, at the same time, dispensing with thumb tacks.

After one drawing pad is used up, it can be removed and a fresh drawing pad tacked upon the board 1, or while the drawing pad is thick enough to give support to the T- square, it can be used without mounting it upon the board 1.

Details of the embodiment of my invention herein shown and described, may be changed without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, I therefore do not wish to be confined to this one embodiment, hence I claim,

1. A drawing pad comprising a plurality of sheets cut to rectangular shape and glued together at one edge thereof and a marginal strip to each sheet divided from the same by a weakened line whereby said strip may be easily torn from the body of the sheet, and a series of equally spaced divisions marked lengthwise on said strip.

2. A drawing pad comprising a plurality of similarly sized and shaped sheets, cut to a rectangle, and glued together at one end of the sheets and two adjoining marginal strips on each sheet, subdivided by equally spaced marks the length of the strip, each strip being separable from the body of the sheet on a weakened line.

'3. In a drawing device the combination of a drawing pad comprising a plurality of similarly sized and shaped sheets of paper or the like, cut toa rectangle, and glued together at one end of the sheets, and two adjoining marginal strips on each sheet, subdivided by equally spaced marks, the length of the strip, each strip being separable from the body of the sheet on a serrated line,

and a board of the same size and shape as Eaidd sheet, to which said pad is releasably HENRY P. JONES.
