UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
WILLIAM H. PARDEE, OF ANTIGO, TVISCONSIN.
TABLET OR BOOK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,857, dated May 27, 1890. Application filed July 3, 1889. Serial No. 816,427. (No model.)
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM H. PARDEE, of Antigo, in the county of Langlade and State of WVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tablet or Book Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a slip-holder of novel construction for tablets or books having flexible covers, adapted to hold the back and one corner of the tablet or book within it, and designed to be. used either as an appendage to a desk, table, or flexible bookcover for binding purposes, or other fixture, or separately and loosely, as desired, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
The books or single or duplicating tablets designed to be used in connection with this holder are provided with a stiff projection or riser on and along their backs for engagement with the holder, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 represents a view in perspective of a tablet or book holder embodying my in-' vention, together with at its one end a portion of a manifold tablet in book form fitted within said holder. Fig. 2 is a face view of said tablet or book within the holder, which is represented as partly broken away; and Fig. 3 is an end view thereof.
A indicates the holder, which is made of a thin strip or plate of metal or any other suitable material. This strip is constructed to form a flange-like portion 1) throughout the length of the holder, and which is bent up and over and down or inward on its one longitudinal margin 0 'to form a longitudinal covered groove (7, which may be of square or other shape in transverse section, with the longitudinal lip e, that forms the inner wall of the groove, at a sufficient distance from the body of the flange-like portion 1) to leave a channel-way corresponding to the thickness of the tablet or book B and fitting the same. The one end of the strip forming this holder is bent up and over to form an L-shaped corner-piece f, adapted to fit into or onto the corner of the tablet or book at its side and end, and so prevent the tablet or book from moving up'or out of the holder. Thiscorner-piece may occupy either a right or left hand position on the tablet or book, according to the relative arrangement of the book and holder, and for some tablets or books might be altogether omitted.
When the holder is designed to be fastened onto a desk, table, or other fixture, its flange portion 7) may have perforations sin it to secure it by any suitable means to the fixture.
Various kinds of tablets or books having at least one flexible cover g and a riser or longitudinal projection 72, along their backs may be slid or fitted into this holder, the riser h passing up or along within the covered grooved portion (Z of the holder, and when so fitted the tablet or book will be securely held in place, wit-h facility to turn its leaves as required. The tablet represented in the drawings may be supposed to be similar to the duplicating one secured to me by Letters Patent No. 398,092, patented to me February 19, 1889; or it may be any othersuitable single or duplicate tablet or book, and in it tindicates the one cover, which is made stiff, and has a marginal clamp 7; for holding the carbon-paper Z of the tablet.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The within-described slip tablet or book holder, consisting of the strip A, having its one longitudinal marginal portion 0 bent up and over and down to form a covered groove d, with channel-way between it and the main portion of the strip, and having a raised angular corner-piece f at one end of said channel to engage and stop the tablet, essentially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. In combination with the slip tablet or book holder A, having a turned-over longitudinal marginal portion 0 and end cornerpiece f, a tablet or book having a flexible cover, and a riser h on or along its back, adapted to fit the longitudinal turned-over marginal portion 0 of the holder, substantially as specified.
WILLIAM H. PARDEE.
