PATENT OFFICE.

vI-:sT-ADJUsTER.
SPECIFICATION forming pm ef Letters recent Ne. 416,891, dated December 1o, 1889.
Application filed llliarcli4 25, 1889.
citizen of the United States, residing atChicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Vest-Adjusters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements. in vest adjusters or holders, and has for its obvj ect to provide means whereby the vest will beconstantly drawn down upon the pantaloons, and thus held in a proper position.
` This object I accomplish by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure lis a front view of a suit of clothes with my device applied. Fig. 2 is a front View of the device, the slide in its normal position. Fig. 3 is a similar view withthe slide drawn down. Fig. et is a rear view. Fig. 5 is a side view, and Fig. 6 is a cross-section.
lLike parts are indicated by the same letter in all the gures.
A is a bed-plate having the overhangingv ledges B B along its edges and downwardlyturned hook C C on its back, and the transverse securing-hook D on its back at the opposite end from the hooks C C.
E is a slide having the flattened edges to slide under the ledges B B and having on its face the hook F.4
G is a spiral spring, oval in cross-section, secured at one end to the front side of the bed-plate A and at its other end, as at J, to the opposite end of the slide.
H is a keeper secured on the pantaloons of the wearer, adapted to be engaged with the hook F.
K is a pair of pantaloons, and L the vest.
The use and operation of my invention are serial Ne. 304,728. (No medei.)
as follows: The downwardly-turned hooks C C, having sharp points, are inserted intot-he inside fabric of the vest, and the pin or hook D is then attached to the vest, thus securely Xing the device on the inner side of the now broughtinto engagement with the keeper H, so that the vest is iiexibly secured to the pantaloons. Thus `the vest is lexibly but firmly drawn into a smooth position across the body of the wearer in whatever position the' wearer may find himself;
particular form or character of the spring, and the same might be of rubber, and should be of suitable size and shape to conform to' the size and shape of the reciprocating parts.
The particular features of the structure as fasteners, whereby it may be secured to the guides, and an elastic connection between the .opposition to a contrary strain.
Signed this 21st day of March, 1889,
DAVID w. BERCrEY.v
In presence ofl CELESTE P; CHAPMAN,
FRANCIS M. IRELAND.`
vest, as indicated in Fig. l. The hook F is pantaloons, and side ledges to take under the` body and slide, whereby the slide is iexibly` reciprocated in one direction on the body in` No special importance isattached to the g shown by me could .be greatly altered withy ciprocate on such body and provided with
