JOHN J. SCHNEIDER, OF LATHRO'P, MISSOURI.
SAFETY-CHAIN.
Soeoification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1921.
Application filed February 10, 1920. Serial No. 357,569.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN J. SCHNEIDER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at vliathrop, in the county of Clinton and State oi": Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Chains, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to chains adapted to be worn on the person for sate-keeping of articles.
An object of the invention is to provid a chain which has several uses, namely, for carrying a watch, umbrella, pocketbook, or the like or carrying several articles.
An advantage is that the chain may be used for this purpose conveniently tor the reason that it is capable of being attached to any part of the clothing which is not true of the usual watch chain having only a fastening bar.
A. turth or object of the invention is to pro vide a chain having the means for fastening it to the person so attached to the chain that the ends of the chain may be varied in length, as for instance if it is desired to attach an umbrella to one end of the chain, the chain may be adjusted so that the umbrella will hang just right to be carried comfortably. Such articles as a fur, noseglasses, hat, etc, may be carried by the chain and the chain is adjusted to the proper length for the purpose.
With the above and other objects in view, I will now proceed to describe a specific embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 shows the chain in perspective.
Fig. 2 is detail view of the attaching means.
Fig. shows fancy pin attachments to be used, in place of the bar shown in 1, and
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of in Fig. 3.
In detail:
The chain comprises a bar 1 which is prothe pin shown vided with a pin 2 so that the chain mav be attached to the person either by putting the bar l'through a button hole or by pinning it to the person.
The bar 1 carries a key hole eyelet 5 having a loop 4.- confined between members 3 retaining said loop on bar 1. The eyelet 5 has an enl rged loop 6 and a sma ler loop 7, the two loops being connected by a. restr1cted passage 12.
A chain 8 is threaded through the loop 6 and at one end carries a ring 9 for attachment to an umbrella or the like and at the other end a snap ring 10.
The chain, for adjustment is pulled back and forth through the loop 6, but when it is desired to fasten the same a link of the chain as shown at 11 in Fig. 2 is placed in the restricted passage 12, said passage and small loop 7 being small enough to prevent the chain "from sliding through.
At times ladies will desire to wear a fancy wire device as the bar I referred to above and for this reason any fancy pin, as 13, may have soldered or otherwise secured thereto a member 12 having a key hole slot with enlarged eyes 14 and restricted passage 15.
lVhile in the foregoing I have described a specific embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that I do not confine myself to the exact construction therein shown.
Having described my invention I claim 2- A safety chain of the character described comprising bar pin having a key hole eyelet consisting of a large and small loop connected by a restricted passage, a chain being threaded through the larger loop, a ring being connected to one end of said chain, a snap ring associated. with the opposite end of the chain, and said small and restricted passage receiving said chain to prevent movement thereof with respect to said eyelet.
In testimony whereof I my signature.
JOHN J. SCHNEIDER.
