Description
J. Russo 2, GARMENT ATTACHMENT Filed March 23, 1959 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 21, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application March 23,
1 Claim.
This invention relates to garment attachments and has for an object to provide a concealed strap and buckle for regulating the waist line of a vest or other garment.
A further object is to provide an elastic concealed strap with or without a buckle, which will allow the wearer comfort at all times and on all occasions, such as outdoor sports, lounging, over-eating, etc.
A further object is to provide an attachment of this character which will have the elastic strips provided with wide outer ends to promote securely fastening the device in place.
A further object is to provide an attachment of this character in which only a small slit on the inner lining of the garment may be made to facilitate access to the buckle while at the same time the device is totally concealed from the exterior of the garment.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be formed of a few strong simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification,
35 Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a vest with a portion broken away to show the garment attachment applied in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional 40 view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of a modified form of the invention formed entirely of elastic.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts 45 in the various views, In designates a garment such as a vest having a back H and. an inner lining [2.
In carrying out the invention the waist regulating device comprises a fabric strap l3 to one 1939, Serial No. 263,781
end of which is attached an elastic strip M which is provided with a wide free end 15. The strap is adapted to receive a buckle It which is attached, by a fabric loop I1, to one end of an elastic strip l8 having a wide free end l9.
The waist regulating device, constructed as above described, is inserted between the back H and inner lining I2 of the Vest and the wide ends I5 and [9 of the elastic strips are secured to the back and inner lining by stitching or otherwise. A slit 20 is formed in the inner lining to afford access to the buckle for adjusting the length of the device.
A modified form of the invention is shown in Figure 3 in which a single elastic strip 2| is provided, having a substantially rectangular central portion 22 and having the end portions 23 and 24 tapered outwardly to provide wide free ends 25 and 26 adapted to be stitched to the garment. In use the back of the garment entirely conceals the waist regulating device and the wide ends of the device permit of the device being securely fastened in place so as to last the life of the garment.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a garment having a back, and a lining having a vertically disposed slit at the waist portion, of a fabric strap concealed between the back and the lining, an elastic strap secured at one end to the fabric strap and alined with said fabric strap, said elastic strap being tapered to gradually increase in width from the fabric strap to a wide free end, said free end being stitched to the back and to the lining, an elastic strap disposed in alinement with the other end of the fabric strap and being tapered to gradually increase in width from the fabric strap to a wide free end, said free end of the last-named strap being stitched to the back and to the lining, a fabric loop on the narrow end of the last-named elastic strap, and a buckle carried by the loop adapted to engage the free end of the fabric strap adjacent to said slit.
