Description

Patented Mar. el, i924?.
SANTE@ insana THEODORE W. SCHRMM, OF .BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
PGWIDER PUFF.
Application filed May 23,
To aZZ fac/Lamy it may concern.'
Be it known that I, 'lHnoDonn TW. SOHRAMM, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Ba City, in the county of Bay and State oflVliichigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder Puffs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to powder puffs and the like.
One object of the invention is to provide a flexible double faced powder puff having a compressed refill powder cake detachably and flexibly secured thereto, so that powder can be applied to either face of the puff when desired.
Another object is to provide a neat and convenientpowder puff having' a pocket therein in which the compact powder cake can be carried.
A further object is to provide means fo-r attaching a fresh compact powder cake when one is exhausted.
A still further object is to provide a flexible pull' having a compact powder cake attached thereto, and so constructed that it can be comfortably carried in the front of the ladys waist or garment without discomfort or inconvenience.
A further object still is to so construct the puff proper that neither the powder cake, or the flexible cord attached thereto will be visible when the powder is in the pocket.
The above and other objects will appear as the specification progresses reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views thereof.
In the drawing,
Fig. l is a plan view illustrating a compact powder cake in the pocket'in the puff.
Fig. 2 is a similar part sectional view illustrating the puff construction.
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the puff illustrating the powder cake and flexible connection, the do-tted lines showing the powder being applied to the face of the puff.
In thedrawing in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention the numeral l indicates the puff proper, which can be the conventional flexible dou- 1923. serial Nn. 640,891.
ble faced puff in general use, and which comprises two pieces of suitable material, the edges of which are stitched together as shown, a pocket 2 being formed therein. rlhis pocket is sufficiently large to allow a compact powder cake to be placed therein, and should be of a size to snugly fit the powder cake so as to prevent its working around and chafing in the pocket and wasting the powder.
A flexible cord 4 is securely sewed to the edge of the pulf, and a snap 5 is attached to the end thereof. The powder cake 3 is in compressed form and is stuck to a thin metal disk member 6, and this member is provided with an opening 7 to which the Said snap is detachably secured. The flexible cord is of suflicient length to allow the powder cake to be applied to either face of the puff.
When the puff is not in use the compact cake is placed in the pocket 2, the flexible cord lying in a passage 8 communicating with the pocket, this passage being formed by stitching the two pieces of material which form the puff together a short distance from the edge, the cord being concealed within this passageway when the powder is not in use.
Snap members 9 are provided for closing the pocket as shown and can be secured to a pair of short straps l0, the ends of these straps serving as grips to facilitate the opening ofthe pocket, and it will be obvious that when the powder cake is in the pocket, that the appearance of the puff1 will be in no manner changed, and the flexible cord will not be dangling' to catch on the hooks and buttons of the owners wearing apparel.
From the foregoing description it will be obvious: that I have perfected a neat and convenient powder puff, having a powder refill cake detachably secured thereto, which is economical to manufacture and convenient to carry and use.
l/Vhat I claim is l. A flexible powder puff having a pocket formed therein, a flexible cord secured to the puff and spaced from the said pocket, and a compact powder cake detachably secured thereto.
edge of che pu and opening therento, a flexible -eord secured in seid passage, and a compact powder cake detaehably secured l0 thereto.
n testimony whereof I afx my signature.
THE @DORE W. SCHRAMM.
