- Cited cooling pipe prevents damage to the inner lining dur- UNlTED STATES PATENTS ing cooler operation and during blade changing operations and provides for an easier disassembly and reassembly during blade changing operations.
- lifting blades in cooling pipes are subjected both to high thermal stresses and to abrasive stresses by means of the material to be cooled, the wear on the lifting blades or vanes is relatively great.
- the lifting blades or vanes have therefore, only a relatively short life and must frequently be exchanged or renewed, respectively.
- the exchange of worn lifting blades or vanes is, however, with these known constructions, and the fastening in the interior of the cooling pipe, connected with appreciable expenditures of time and money.
- the object ofthe present invention resides in the provision of a cooling pipe in which the disadvantages indicated above are prevented and the inner lining is protected, in the area of fastening of the lifting blades or vanes, from distortion and damage.
- the inner lining of a cooling pipe in the area of the fastening of the lifting blades or vanes includes a recess which extends to the wall of the cooling pipe, through which recess at least one fastening foot of a blade or vane is disposed.
- the fastening foot is thereby connected to the outer wall of the cooling pipe so that in the area of the fastening of the lifting blade or vane with the pipe wall, the inner lining is not stressed, because of the recess, and the lifting blade or vane may be quickly exchanged and renewed in a simple manner, without thereby experiencing damage or distortion.
- fastening of the lifting blade or vane through the recess in the inner lining provides a direct connection with the pipe wall, so that even with elastic deformations of the fastening of the blade or vane, or of the pipe sleeve, in the area of the fastening, does not result in damage, distortion or disturbance of the inner lining.
- the deformations of the foot of a lifting blade or vane and of the pipe wall occurring through the effects of heat are taken into account to a fargoing extent and thereby the life of these elements and of the cooling pipe is increased.
- the recess in the inner lining is lined with a metal sleeve.
- the inner lining may be introduced or applied before the fastening of the lifting blades or vanes to. the pipe wall, which leads to an appreciable simplification and facilitation of the lining work or operation.
- the inner lining in this area is reliably insured with respect to damage or disturbance, both during operation as well as during dismounting of old and the mounting of new lifting blades or vanes.
- the fastening foot of the lifting blade or vane is constructed to be: substantially hollow.
- This hollow construction of the fastening foot provides a decrease in material costs, as well as a simplification of the mounting and dismounting of the lifting blade or vane.
- a clamping bolt with a relatively long shaft is provided, the head of the bolt engaging the fastening foot at a distance spaced from the pipe wall. Therefore, the clamping bolt and spacing very advantageously provides an accommodation for the expansion and bending strains occurring during operation, wherein'these strains are transferred to the relatively long or elongate construction of the shaft of the bolt, or taken up by the shaft so that breaks between the head of the bolt and the shaft are prevented.
- the fastening foot is provided with a flange which covers the recess of the inner lining.
- the lifting blade or vane is provided on its front side and/or on its rear side with at least one projection which extends beyond the lifting blade surface.
- a part of the material taken up by the lifting blade or vane is held back or discharged with a delay because of these projections which provides for a very favorable and uniform distribution of the material in the stream of gas conveyed through the cooling pipe and contributes to a great decrease in the wear of the lifting blade.
- the life of the lifting blade may therefore be substantially increased through the provision of such projections.
- At least one reinforcement rib is arranged on the rear side of the lifting blade.
- FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a portion of a cooling pipe taken through a lifting blade having a fastening foot which is fixed to the pipe wall within a recess in the inner lining according to the invention
- FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken generally along the line IIII of FIG. 1.
- a wall 1 ofa cooling pipe for example a satellite cooler on a rotary kiln, is provided with a fireproof inner lining 2.
- the inner lining 2 is provided with recesses 3 (only one shown) which extend to the pipe wall 1 and which receive a fastening foot 5 carried by a lifting blade 4.
- the fastening foot 5 extends through the recess 3 up to the pipe wall 1, a metal plate 11 as will be discussed below being disposed intermediate the foot 5 and the wall I.
- the recess 3 is lined with a metal sleeve 6 and, as illustrated in FIG. 2, has a cross section, for example, in the shape of a rectangle.
- the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 is constructed with inwardly extending walls so as to be essentially hollow. More specifically, the fastening foot 5 includes a pair of interiorly extending oppositely directed truncated cone-shaped hollow chambers 7 and 8, respectively, with a common wall 16. The bottom part of the fastening foot 5 (as viewed in the drawing) which forms the two hollow chambers 7 and 8 is so arranged in the blade foot that a space is provided between the common wall 16 and the outer wall 1.
- the common wall is provided with an aperture 9 which receives the head 17 of a relatively long shanked bolt 10 which, with a washer 18 and a nut 19 serves for fastening the foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 to the wall 1 of the cooling pipe.
- the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 is disposed within the recess 3 on a metal plate 11 having an aperture therein for receiving the shank of the bolt 10.
- the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 is also provided with a flange 12 which covers and protects the edge of the lining 2 which defines the recess 3 from damage.
- the lifting blade 4 is provided, on its front side and on its rear side, with a plurality of projections 13 and 14 which extend beyond their respective blade surfaces and which are arranged to extend somewhat in the axial direction of the cooling pipe. Furthermore, the lifting blade 4 has, on its rear side, a reinforcing rib 15 extending in the longitudinal direction of the blade.
- the inner lining 2 has a recess 3 extending to the pipe wall, through which the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 passes and is fixedly connected to the pipe sleeve with the aid of a tightening screw or clamping bolt 10, a lifting blade which has become unusable may be disconnected very simply and quickly and replaced by a new lifting blade without damage or distortion being inflicted to the inner lining 2 in the area of the lifting blade fastening.
- the relative movements positively occurring during operation between the foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 and the inner lining may be assumed or equalized by the bolt 10 and not transferred to the inner lining 2, so that during operation, even at quite high thermal and mechanical stresses, or strains, on the lifting blades, damage of the inner lining 2 in the area of the lifting blade fastening does not occur.
- the metal plate 11 arranged between the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4 and the pipe wall 1 very advantageously protects the wall 1 in this area from excessive strain or damage. Furthermore, through the hollow construction of the fastening foot 5 shown in FIG. 1, there very advantageously occurs a saving in material and the clamping bolt head received in the aperture 9 of the foot 5 is to a fargoing extent protected from thermal and abrasive influences.
- the head of the clamping bolt 10 may, in this hollow construction of the fastening foot 5 of the lifting blade 4, further and also very advantageously be protected from disadvantageous thermal and mechanical strains through filling of the hollow chamber 7 with a fireproof ramming or stamping mass. The life of the clamping bolt 10 is appreciably extended in this manner.
- the life of the lifting blade 4 may be appreciably increased, according to the invention, through the provision of the projections 13 and 14 which extend beyond the surfaces of the front side and rear side of the blade. From the material filling lying in the pipe, or from the material trickling down from the blades located in the upper area of rotation, cushions of material are collected beyond a certain angle of rotationbetween the projections 13 and 14, which cushions protect the lifting blade body 4 from wear. Furthermore, also the reinforcing rib 15 extending the length of the blade 4 on the rear side thereof contributes to the reinforcement and simultaneous lessening of wear of the lifting blade 4.
- the recess in the inner lining of the cooling pipe according to the invention, as well as the construction and fastening of the lifting blade with the cooling wall is not limited to the embodiment shown by way of example in FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the fastening foot 5 of the blade 4 may be constructed in other cross sections in addition to the rectangular cross section shown, for example in a cylindrical shape or the like.
- the lifting blades, each according to size may be equipped with two or more fastening feet, without departing from the invention.
