  • FIG. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view illustrating a variation of the dust collection bag holder shown in FIGS. 3-7.
  • a vacuum cleaner in accordance with the present invention generally comprises a wheeled main body 1 with wheels 38 and a handle 3 and having an electric-motor-driven fan 2 housed therein; and a front dust collection box receiving section 6 formed integral with the main body 1 and separated therefrom by a partition wall 4 made integral therewith and provided with an opening 5; and a dust collection box 7 removably received in the front section 6 of the main body 1 as best shown in FIG. 3.
  • the reference la of FIG. 3 includes an exhaust opening.
  • the dust collection box 7 has a handle 10 formed integral therewith at the top of the box 7, an opening 8 and a suction port or suction pipe connection 9.
  • the dust collection box 7 is generally divided into two chambers, a first dust collection chamber 13 and a second dust collection chamber 18, by a pre-filter 11 and a main filter 15 each having an end removably fitted into a guide groove 12 formed in the inner wall surface of the dust collection box 7.
  • the pre-filter l1 and the main filter 15 are fitted into the guide groove 12 with a packing 16 interposed therebetween so as to provide dusttightness.
  • the pre-filter 11 comprises a screen so that the dust and dirt which are relatively large in particle size are trapped by the pre-filter 11 and collected in the first dust chamber 13.
  • the dust and dirt which is very fine in particle size which pass through the pre-filter 11 are trapped by the main filter 15 having a mesh smaller than that of the pre-filter 11 and collected in the second dust collection chamber 18 between the pre-filter 11 and the main filter 15.
  • a dust exhaust port 17 is provided on the side of the opening 8 of the dust collection box.
  • a push button 19 extends from the handle 10 and is normally biased to move upwardly under the force of a spring 20 loaded between the flange 19a of the push button 19 and a portion of the handle 10 as best shown in FIG. 2, but is prevented from moving out of the handle 10 by the flange 19a.
  • a lever 21 which is pivotably fixed to the dust collection box 7 with a pivot pin 22 has its one end 23 engaged with the lower end 19b of the push button 19 and has its the other end engaged with the upper edge 27 of a cover 26 which is pivotably fixed to the dust collection box 7 with a shaft 2.5 to cover the opening 8 of the dust collection box 7 as best shown in FIGS. 4 and 5.
