SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,176, dated January 31, 1888.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that Moses H. STRAUS, of Columbus,iu the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Ticket-Holder,of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improvement in ticket-holders, and has for its object to provide a device capable of ready and easy attachment to a bolt or piece of goods, to retain a label in connection with a box or package, and, also, to attach a ticket to articles of apparel while lying upon a counter without tak ing them from the pile and without injury to the goods, and wherein one ticket may be re moved and another inserted with dispatch and ease without removing the holder.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder applied to a piece of goods. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of theholder detached without a rest for the ticket. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a holder having the rest and ticket inserted; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the under side, illustrating a number of tickets attached ready for insertion.

In carrying out the invention the holder is constructed, preferably, of a single piece of spring-wire bent upon itself to assume a shape hereinafter set forth.

At a suitable point in the length of the wire, near one end,the said wire is bent upward and horizontally rearward, above and parallel with the arm a, formed by the first bend, to produce a short open loop, a, and from thence at right angles outward, upward, and again inward, above and parallel with the first right-angular bend, producing an open side loop, a", shorter yet similar to the aforesaid loop a, as shown in Fig. 2. After forming the side loop a", which extendsinward to a point in longitudinal alignment with the end loop, the wire is bent away from the end loop to form the letter M, which formation constitutes the top B, and is at right angles to the longitudinal side Serial No. 245,431. The wire is now carried at right angles to the inner end of the side loop I), downward, and returns in a parallel line to produce an open end loop b, opposing and aligning the end loop a, and the second longitudinal arm, b", extending parallel with the opposing arm, a, and of equal length. Each arm a and b is provided at its free end with an upwardly-extending eye, (I, as illustrated in Fig. 2.

While the device may be used with good effect as described, the cloth to which it is attached acting as a back for the ticket, yet a plate, D, is preferably provided of proper size adapted to be sprung in the side loops, a and b, and secured by frictional contact,or notched to receive the wire forming the loops,as shown in Fig. 3, or the plate may be attached in any other approved manner and made to project beyond the arms a and If. (See Fig. 4.)

is then placed upon the surface of the plate and slid under the M -shaped top B, the said top holding the ticket in positive engagement with the plate.

It is obvious that the device may be attached to any garmentpresenting an edge,or to a box or package, to hold a label. 1f the edge is round,the arms a and b may be bowed to correspond. It is also obvious that the device may be effectually attached to a belt of cloth, or it may be readily and quickly removed and replaced; and it will be further observed that the device does not injure the cloth or goods, and that in the attachment to garments laid in piles the said garments need not be disturbed; also, that in marking gloves, stockings, and articles of that class the device will serve to keep the same in pairs.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. As an improved article of manufacture,a ticket-holder consisting of a single wire bent upon itself to form the parallel side arms, a and b the aligning end loops, a" and b,.'the M- shaped top B, and the aligning side loops, (6 and I), connected with said .top and located above the said arms, as, set forth.
