To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, (Jean M. DURNIL, of

Fayette, in the county of Howard and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Fastener. or Holder for Paper and other Materials or Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention consists of a spring-wire clamp of peculiar construction, substantially as hereinafter described,and pointed out in the claims, the same being designed to be attached to a board or other surface for clamping or holding paper or articles made of paper or other material, and being simple, strong, and easy of adjustment for the several purposes to which it is applicable.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

Figure 1 represents a viewin perspective of a pair of my improved fasteners or holders secured to a board, and showing their clamping ends pointed. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a like device with its clamping end not pointed.

Each clamp A is constructed of a piece of spring-wire bent to form a spring clampingarm, b, made with a coil, 0, at its one end, to give it the necessary strong elasticity or spring action, and from such coiled portion continued to form an inner arm, d, which projects in a like direction or beneath the arm b at a suitable distance from the latter, and is bent laterally at its outer end to form an open-loop extension, 0, which loop portion 6 crosses to one sideof the arm b, and has its outer portion or arm, 6, extended to pass to the opposite side thereof, and is crooked or bent'in-.

structed to form of said arm either a pointed hook as shown in Fig. 1, or has its clamping end or portion bnot pointed, but rounded over or turned outward and backward, as shown in Fig. 2, to form a blunt pressing extremity 7 whereit meets the board or surface B, according to the use to which the fastener is applied.

I will here mention only a few of the many uses of this fastener, clamp, or holder. Thus, as shown in Fig. 1, there maybe any number of the fasteners A, having their clamping-end portions '1) pointed and arranged one above the other uponthe board .13, to serve as fasteners or holders for paper sacks or bags such as used by grocery-men, the pointed end b pressing on the paper and holding a series of sacks or bags oneover or upon the other. Each "sack or bag is removed by tearing it from the holding-end portion b, leaving the remaining sacks or bags in the pile still held by the same pointed end. When a series of such fasteners are arranged closely-one under the other, then the several piles of sacks or bags held by them will be projected outward at their bottoms,

' which will facilitate the catching hold of them to remove them. Any number of sacks or bags may be put under each clamp or fastener.

The device also may be used for holding shaving-paper-such as used in barbers shopsbusiness-cards,and various other papers, documents, or articles.

When the fastener is constructed with a turned-over or rounded. and blunt clampingend portion, b, as shown in Fig. 2, it may be used for holding towels and hats; also for holding window-curtains which raise andlow-' or by using, for instance, a pair of said fast-.

The fastener, taken as a whole, is a doublehook onethat is, has one hook, e e f, adapted to engage with the vboardor surface to which the fastener is applied, and a clamping-hook,

Having thus described my invention,w hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The fastener or holder A, composed of a piece of spring-wire bent to form a spring clamping-arm, b, having an inner bent front holding-end portion and rearstifiening-coil, c,

the latter terminating beneath the clamping arm b in a forwardly-extending arm, d, bent.

10 which is adapted to engage with the board or surface to which the fastener is applied, and the other one, b b, of which occupies a transverse relation to the former hook and serves to clamp or hold .the articles secured by the fastener, substantially as specified.
