UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES EP. COLLINS, OF GRANADA, COLORADO.
STIRRUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,193, dated August 16, 1887. Application filed Junei, 1887. Serial No. 240,314. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, .Lmrns Er. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Granada, in the county of Bent and State of O0lorado, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Stirrups, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in slirrups; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the same, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a reversible stirrup mounted in a suitable yoke, whiclris strong and durable, accessible at all points, and cheaply manufactured. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved form of stirrup, shown attached in connection with the stirrup-strap. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my improved stirrup.
A indicates the stirrup proper, which is formed of an annular ring of metal provided at opposite sides with small bosses a, through which pivotpins A pass and are headed over on the inner. portion of the stirrup-ring and on the outer portion of the lower ends of the yoke B,in which the ring A is adapted to turn. The upper portion of the said yoke B incloses a rod or pintle, I), which unites the two upper edges thereof, said rod or pintle being covered by a friction-roll,b',around which the stirrupstrap 0 is adapted to be secured, as will be readily understood.
My improved stirrup is constructed of such form that the foot may be readily inserted therein, and to provide against wear thereof the said stirrup-ring A may be turned, as will be readily understood, and thereby rendered more strong and durable.
I The novelty and utility of my improved stirrup being obvious, it is not necessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a reversible stirrup, herein described, consisting of the annular metal ring A, forming a foot-rest, having the trunnions integrally formed with the sides thereof, the yoke-pieces B, engaging with said trunnious, and united at their upper ends by a rod, I), upon which a friction-roll, b, is mounted and engaged by the strap 0, substantially as described.
2. The reversible stirrup herein described, consisting of an annular ring, A, mounted in a suitable yoke, and adapted to be revolved to form a foot-rest on either side thereof to equalize the wear, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES EP. COLLINS.
