NVILLIAM K. RAIRIGH, OF ST. PETERSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
'THlLL-LOOP FOR HARNESS.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,142, dated September 26, 1882.
Application filed June 15, 1882. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM K. RAIRIGH, of St. Petersburg, Clarion county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful'Improvement in Thill-Loops for Harness, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a certain improve ment in thatclass of thill-loops for harness having a metal bushing or block provided with a frictional roll, to reduce friction between the thill and the bushing or block; and it consists in providing the block or bushing with continuous flanges projecting beyond its sides, and with a pin or projection at its lower end, said flanges having formed integral with themselves, upon their side edges at the upper ends, loops, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Reference is tobe had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved thill-loop, showing the thill in dotted lines; and Fig. 2 is a central sectional elevation of the same, showing the thill in full lines.
A represents the metal block, which is of sibtahle size and cast in some ornamental form; and B represents the friction-roller, upon which the thill, w hen in place, rests, journaled within represents the loop-straps of the harness. The block is provided with continuous flanges f, projecting beyond its sides, between which the straps E, are held when passed around the block, which also effect the holding of the block or bushing in the loop formed by the I straps. These flanges have formed integral with themselves, upon their side edges at the upper ends, loops h h, under which the straps E pass on their way around the block and between the flanges f, to further aid the holding of the block or bushing on the strap. At the lower side of the block is formed the point or projection j. which is about midway between the flanges f f. This point or projection fits in a slot in the strap E, and serves to always hold the block and strap in the proper relative position with each other.
With this device the harness-loop is protected and made very durable, and the thill will not be worn so rapidly as with the ordinary leather loop. Besides, the attachment is cheap and an ornament to the harness.
The rollerB may be of iron or rubber, as
found most expedient.
