Description

(No Model.)
g, A. ANDERSON. CORSET.
/Patented Sept. 28, 1886..
UNTTEE STATEs PATENT Ormea.
JOHN A. ANDERSON, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
CORSET.
(JPCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,969, dated September 28, 18536 Application filed May 5, 1886. Serial No. 201.198. (No model.)
To all 10700772/ it 77mg/ concern.-
Beit known that I, JOHN A. ANDERSON, of the city of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specilieation, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates more particularly to the construction of the clasp or fastening and its relation to the body of the corset, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a l'ront View ot' my improved corset, the same being open. Fig. 2 is a like view of the corset, the same being closed.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in each ot' the figures.
The corset at its front central division where 'the fastening is applied is provided with light stileningpieces A, which are covered by the fabric ot' which the corset is chiefly constructed. One of the pieces Alias fixed thereto the buttons or studs a, to connect and form a fastening with the opposite eyes, c, as hereinafter stated.
B designates elastic bands, one end of each band being secured to the body of the corset back of the adjacent stiffening-piece A, and being covered and protected by a pocket, a, formed of the corset fabric, which allows free movement to the band in stretching. The opposite end of each band is provided with a metallic eye, c. Vhen the bands B are not eX- tended, they are entirely incloscd by the pecket-s a, the eyes c only projecting, as shown in Fig. 2, through small openings in the fabric. Au expa nsionclasp is thus formed by theparts a, c, and B, so that the front of the waist or corset opens and closes readily, the bands B yielding to any movement of the wearer or pressure against the corset, and when the clasp is unfastened the bands are drawn within the pockets a', and do not affect the appearance of the corset or affect its marketable value.
I am aware that, broadly, elastic bands inserted in the body of corsets are old, and therefore disclaim them, exceptwhen used and combined with other features in the manner herein specified.
I'Iaving described my invention, I claim- A corset having stiffening-pieees A at the front central division, and buttons or studs a. secured to one of said stiffeningspie'ees, and pockets u', formed of the fabric ot' the corset, combined. with elastic bands B, attached tothe body of the corset back of the adjacent stift'- ening-pieceV A, and within and at the farther ends of the pockets a, and provided at their outer ends with metallic eyes c, adapted to connect with the buttons or studs c, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. ANDERSON.
Vitnesses: CHARLES V. JAEGER, J ULIUs SCHINDIIELM.
