GLOVE AND GLOVE-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NoJ 326,770, dated September 22, 1885.
Application filed May 7, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMEs I. MCMAETIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joh nstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; andIdo hereby de clare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it apro pertains to niake and use the same.
This invention relates to that class of glovefastenings wherein a loop or cord or a similar piece is secured to the wrist portion at one point, passed through eyelets at other points,
[5 and back again to a button, over which the loop of the cord is passed to secure the glove about the wrist.
The invention consists in the details here inafter described, and particularly pointed out 2O in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure l is a perspective View of a glove provided with my improved fastening, showing the outside arrangement. Fig. 2 is a perspective View, looking inside, at the part provided with my improved fastening. Fig. 3 is a section taken in a plane passing parallel with the edge of the wrist portion and through that part provided with the fastening.
The letter A represents an ordinary glove,
in the side of which I secure, by stitching or otherwise, a triangular-shaped gore or piece, a, to enlarge the opening ofthe wrist portion. 5 On the inside I secure the knot-covering flap b. Suitably arranged eyelets, c, are secured in the glove and gore, through which is passed the cord d, which is knotted at the ends, as indicated at d. These knots, as clearly shown, are covered by the flap b, which protects the wrist from being chafed thereby. The end of the loop of this cord d may be provided with a convenient tab, c, for operating the fastening. The glove also has secured to it a button or stud,f.
The operation of my fastening is very simple, and as follows: After placing the glove upon the hand, as usual, the cord is drawn up by means of the tab e and the loop passed (No model.)
over the button or stud, which secures the y sightly appearance of the knots or fastening means employed in some gloves.
It is of course obvious that, instead of knot ting the ends of the cord, any other enlargementor means may be employed for retaining the ends beneath the flap.
Vhen the flap is employed, the cord may be shortened or lengthened to suit differentsized wrists without exposing long or unsightly ends.
Vhat I claim isl. The combination, with a glove having the gore in the side, of the cords secured to the inside ofthe glove on one side of the gore and passing through the gore from the outer side thereof and through the glove from the under side thereof on the opposite side of the gore, said cord being looped and adapted to engage a button or stud,j`, located adjacent to the point at which the cord is secured, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a glove having a golea, of a looped cord having its ends located on the inner side of the glove on one side of the gore, and a flap on the inner side of the glove for covering said ends of the cord, the said cord passing through openings in the gore and through openings in the glove adjacent thereto, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with a glove, of the looped cord secured to the inside ofthe glove, passing through openings c, then back within the glove and out through openings, a button or stud, f, adjacent to the secured ends of the cord, and an interior iiap for covering the se cured ends of the cord, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES I. MCMARTIN.
Vitnesses:
JAMES MILLER, ARCH. MCMAETIN.
