Definitions
- the present invention relates to a drafting arrangement for spinning machines which serves for working shortas well as long-stapled fibrous material.
- the advantage of the aforedescribed arrangement is the convenient and quick changeability of the drafting field from long-staple drafting position to short-staple drafting position and vice versa.
- FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic cross sectional view of a drafting arrangement according to the invention in position for drafting long-stapled fibres, the section being made along line I-I in FIG. 2.
- FIG. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the drafting arrangement.
- FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view of the drafting arrangement adjusted to work short-stapled fibres.
- numeral 1 designates a delivery roller which is rotatable in a bearing slot 2 provided in a part 3 of the machine.
- a drafting roller 4 at the rear end of the drafting field is rotatable in a bearing slot 5 in a support 6 which is adjustably connected to the support part 3 for changing the position of the support and of the roller 4 longitudinally of the drafting field.
- a reversing guide rail 8 for a lower apron 9 is placed in close proximity to the drafting roller 1 and has a foot portion resting in a slot 7 of the part 3 so that the rail 8 can be conveniently lifted out of the slot 7.
- the rail or bar 8 diverts the apron 9 towards a tension roller 11 which is swingable on a part 10 of the machine frame.
- the apron 9 runs from the tension roller 11 upwards onto and partly surrounds the drafting roller 4 to be driven thereby.
- a second guide rail 12 which preferably has the same cross sectional configuration as the rail 8 has a portion resting in slots 13' and 13 of extensions 18 and 19, respectively, of the support 6.
- the rail or bar 12 can be easily lifted out of the slots 13 and 13', by hand.
- the parts of the rails 8 and 12 extending into the slots 7 and 13 have the same cross sectional configuration so that the rails are interchangeable. If desired, the portions of the rails 8 and 12 which are in contact with the inside of the lower apron may have a different cross sectional configuration.
- the part 3 is provided with lateral recesses 14 and 15 (FIG. 2) which are placed directly in the rear of the drafting roller 1 and lateral of the slot 7.
- the rear ends of the recesses 14 and 15, i.e., the portions thereof facing the adjustable support 6 are open.
- the forward inside wall and the bottom of the recesses 14 and 15 form cylindrical surfaces 16 and 16, respectively, which surfaces are placed normal to the vertical inside surfaces 17 and 17 of the recesses 14 and 15.
- the extensions 18 and 19 of the adjustable support 6 are so shaped as to fit into the recesses 15 and 14, respectively.
- the forward and bottom surface of the extensions 18 and 19 have a cylindrical configuration 20 corresponding to the bottom surfaces 16 and 16' of the recesses 15 and 14.
- the aforedescribed structure permits to move the adjustable support 6 and the drafting roller 4 forward until the rail 12 abuts against the rail 8. If it is desired to make the drafting field still shorter, the reversing rail 12 is removed and the support 6 is moved forward to the position indicated by dash-dot lines in FIG. 1. A still shorter drafting field can be obtained by removing the reversing rail 8 and moving the support 6 to the position shown in FIG. 3 in which the slots 13 and 13 of extensions 19 and 18 are laterally juxtaposed to and aligned with the slot 7 of the part 3 so that the reversing rail 8 can be placed in the aligned slots 13, 7, 13'.
- a drafting arrangement comprising a first and a second roller pair defining a drafting field, each roller pair including a drafting roller and a top roller, a supporting part supporting the drafting roller of the second roller pair, an adjustable support, the drafting roller of the first roller pair resting on said adjustable support, the latter being adjustably connected to said supporting part for changing the position of said adjustable support and of the drafting roller of the first roller pair in a direction longitudinally of the drafting field, a lower apron partly surrounding the drafting roller of the first roller pair to be driven thereby, an apron reversing guide rail having a foot portion extending parallel to the apron and transversely of the drafting field and removably received in a corresponding slot in said supporting part in the vicinity of the drafting roller of the second roller pair, and a guide rail placed below the run of said apron running from the drafting roller of the first roller pair to said apron reversing guide rail for supporting the apron, the last mentioned guide rail having
- a drafting arrangement according to claim 2 wherein said slot in one of said carrying portions is laterally juxtaposed to and in line with the slot in said extension for jointly receiving the foot portion of one guide rail, when said extension is fully inserted in said recess.
