In a drafting device for spinning or preparatory machines comprising two aprons each guided over at least two guides so arranged that the aprons run together for a certain distance, at least one apron comprises an endless belt of elastic material of convex cross-section and reinforced side-edges bearing on the guides. The section of the upper apron is shown at 1 in Fig. 8, the convexity becoming flattened where the apron engages a lower apron 15 of standard pattern. The upper apron is carried by rollers 10 of the shape shown being produced by collars 14; the thickened portions 3 are accommodated on cylindrical, stepped, or frusto-conical parts 12. Two such rollers may be accommodated on either side of a central support on a common shaft. The apron may be accommodated on two such rollers of the same or different diameters, with or without a tensor forward of the smaller roller, or on one roller and a tensor; in each case the tensor is shaped as at 21 in Fig. 15, having a gap 23 to allow the apron to flex when in contact with the lower belt, and ends shaped to receive the thickened ends of the apron. For longer fibres, a third roller may be provided between the two guide rollers, or a third independent roller may be provided rearwardly of the apron. The apron may be used in conjunction with a standard apron running over two upper and one lower roller, the upper rollers being of different diameters, and having between them, if desired, an additional roller or a guideplate, or when a tensor is provided forwardly of the front roller of the upper apron, a similarlyplaced tensor is provided in the lower apron. Finally, when the upper apron runs over one roller and a tensor, the lower apron may be similarly guided. The upper rollers may be weighted and the lower ones driven.
