Abstract

1,245,599. Drafting apparatus. W. SCHAEFFLER and G. SCHAEFFLER [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLEROHG]. 26 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 45737/68. Heading D1D. A three roller pair drafting head comprises a feed roller pair 3, 4, a middle roller pair 6, 7 and a delivery roller pair 8, 9 and is arranged such that the material 1 passes part of the way round the surface of one of the feed rollers so that the path length between the nips 2 and 5 is greater than the staple length of the fibres and the unsupported length 10, 5 is equal to or less than the staple length. To achieve this the axis of the upper rollers are arranged in a plane while roller 4 is displaced upwardly from the plane containing the axis of rollers 7 and 9 by a distance equal to at least one half of its diameter. Drafting belts may be associated with rollers 6, 7.
