Class 120(2) A drafting roller comprises a core with a pair of spaced rings or annular ribs 2 and a resilient sleeve 3 of which that part which extends over the rings is larger than the rings so that it is normally out of contact with them; when the roller is brought into contact with the counter-pressure device, the rings engage the sleeve in the area of contact and the part of the sleeve between the rings co-operates with the counter-pressure device to roll and press the sliver. The end parts of the sleeve may be turned in to rest against the rings or may rest on resilient annuli outside the rings. The counter-pressure device may be a similar roller, or a fluted roller, or one gapped to accommodate a rubber- or leather-covered resilient belt, or it may be an endless resilient apron passing over one or more rollers and guide bars. The positions of the upper and lower rollers as described above may be reversed.
