No. 30,642 1 Claim. (Cl. 128-542) The object of the present invention is to provide a girdle so constructed as to overcome the long existing tendency of girdles to ride up the back of the wearer. Often for restored comfort and appearance, women, particularly upon rising from a chair, have felt it necessary to grasp the dress and the gridle in an effort to pull it down to normal position.

The characteristic of the present girdle is that it is so formed as to simultaneously mold the abdomen to more flattened form and, in co-action therewith, to draw a marginal lower band area of the girdle firmly under the buttocks. The center buttocks-receiving area of the girdle resists transverse stretch, whereas the band below said buttocks-receiving area has lengthwise stretch, and leads from the back forwardly and upwardly in a sweep, at each forward end thereof to at least a mid point of the transversely inelastic abdominal panel.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIG. 1 is a front elevation of the girdle, in its regular form.

FIG. 2 is a rear elevation of said girdle.

FIG. 3 shows by dotted lines the side profile of a wearer with the girdle in position as worn, looking at it from the side.

FIG. 4 is a perspective View of a modified form of the girdle, in that it is a pantie girdle, dotted lines indicating a wearer and the girdle being shown as when worn.

FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 4, showing the pantie girdle toward the back thereof.

Referring to FIGURES 1 to 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that the girdle consists of a front abdominal panel 1 which will be resistant to transverse stretch, but preferably will have some stretch in the vertically longitudinal direction. At each side of front panel 1 is a freely stretchable hip panel 2, which extends rearwardly to a back panel 3 for covering a primary area of the buttocks.

Front panel 1 is formed at its lower portion in wedge shape, so that its margins progressively bound a decreasing width of said front panel, and said margins of the front panel 1 are joined by seams at 3 to a member of special formation, and which is indicated at 4.

At the back of the girdle, member 4 has a straight hemline, its back center being relatively narrow as a band. From its back center, and at each side thereof, member 4 sweeps upwardly in gradually increasing width, until it meets front panel 1, and is joined thereto by the seams 3 and to the hip panels 2 by the seam 5, which also joins member 4 to the back panel 3.

In FIGS. 1 to 3 inclusive, the arrows denote the directions of stretch, and the back panel 3 will be resistant to transverse stretch, as is the case with the front panel 1. By reason of the condition that the front panel 1 and back panel 3 are resistant to transverse stretch, they will, when the garment is worn, produce a flattening eifect upon the abdomen and the primary buttocks areas of the wearer, and at the front of the garment the pull thereby induced at panel 1 will be directly imposed upon the ends at the front of member 4, thereby drawing its back band-like area tightly under the buttocks as indicated in FIG. 3. So as not to impede such inward movement of the back band-like area of member 4, its connection with panel 3, FIG. 2, is by a ladder stitch or its equivalent,

as indicated at 5, FIG. 2. The ladder seam 5 preferably extends as a jointure, between the freely elastic hip panels 2 and member 4.

The invention also may be applied to a pantie girdle, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, wherein the hip panels are sown at 6, the front panel at 7 and the back panel at 8. The front and back panels 7 and 8 will be resistant to elasticity transversely thereof, but will have vertical stretch, as indicated by the arrows thereon, whereas the hip panels will have both vertical and transverse stretch, as so indicated by arrows.

As shown in FIG. 4, the lower area of front panel 7 is wedge shaped, and each marginal edge of the wedge is seamed at 9 to one of two leg encircling members 10, the latter in turn being connected by ladder seam, in each case, to the hip panels 6, the latter seam being indicated at 11.

From the front of the girdle, rearwardly and around the back and inner portion of each leg, the appropriate panel 19 is progressively narrowed so as to lie below the buttocks and the hip area of the wearer, and the ends of each member it} are joined by a scam, the seam 12 therefor shown in FIG. 5 at the left hand leg area of the wearer, indicated by dotted lines, and being preferably used in the same general position for the indicated right leg, 5. A crotch piece 14 of any suitable construction may be employed.

In the action of the pantie girdle described above, tension is imposed upon each of the members shown at Iii, as by the action of the transversely inelastic front panel 7, and which will receive pressure from the abdomen of the wearer, so that the band-like area of each member lil will be caused to lie under the buttocks, restraining rise or" the girdle and binding of the crotch area.

It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangement of the elements constituting the embodiments illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I now claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:

A girdle having a waist terminating line, a back area comprising a central back panel proportioned to have its lower edge approximately at the base of the buttocks of a wearer, and opposed panels seamed thereto, each of said opposed panels being extended to the front of the girdle and there being spaced from each other, at the front of the girdle, each of said opposed panels having its greatest width at the girdle waist line and thence sweeping downwardly and outwardly toward the back of the girdle with progressively decreased width from top to base, a front panel assembly joining said spaced opposed panels at the front of the girdle, said front panel assembly being formed as an upwardly directed wedge downwardly continuing as a loop area carried backwardly and forming the rear lower margin of the girdle, said loop being seamed to the said central back panel and said opposed panels, said loop area progressively decreasing in width from a relatively high point of each of said opposed panels to a width forming a narrow band-like base terminus of the girlde under the said back central panel.
