Description
INVENTOR Z wn'NJEssEs BY fiamf/zy Lang ,m WM 46 WM ATTO RNEY Patented Oct. 3, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1,929,363 PAN TIES Application March. 22, 1933. Serial No. 662,165
3 Claims.
This invention relates to an article of wearing apparel and particularly to what may be known as panties, the object being to provide a construction which will somewhat mold the body and at the same time be comfortable both while standing and sitting.
Another object of the invention is to provide a rather snug fitting article of the type known as panties, wherein the body stretches circumferentially and the crotch member stretches in a direction at right angles thereto, or fore and aft of the garment.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved pantie wherein the crotch memher is provided and arranged with overlapping ends switched together so as to produce a rein forced central section while at the same time providing a structure which is freely elastic in one direction.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. l is an elevation of a garment disclosing an embodiment of the invention as the same will appear when lying flat;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through Fig. 1, on the line 22, the garment being positioned as it would appear on a person;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of the garment with the parts distended so as to clearly show the position in relation of the crotch strap or section.
cates the body of the garment and 2 the crotch member. The body 1 shows a substantially truncated cone shaped structure having front and back members 3 and 4 of substantially the same size, although the back extends downwardly further than the front, as ilustrated by the portions 5 and 6. At the respective edges of the front and back members they are connected together with suitable lines of stitching '7, said edges being curved, though tapering from a small waist portion to the leg openings 8 and 9. The upper end of the garment is provided with an elastic binding 10, while the leg openings are provided with bindings 11 and 12 of suitable elastic material, said binding being also stitched to the side edges of the crotch strap 2. This crotch strap 2 is formed of independent members 13 and 14 overlapping at the center of the strap so as to present a squared reinforced section 15. A suitable line of stitching 16 connects the overlapped parts together so as to provide the desired reinforcement. The material of the strap 2 is preferably the same as the material of the front and back 3 and 4 and is elastic in one direction but not in the other. The strap 2 is adapted to stretch as indicated by the double- Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 indie headed arrow 1'7, while the body of the garment is adapted to stretch as indicated by the arrow 18.
It will be noted-that the end of the section 13 is comiected by threads 19 to the front 3, presenting substantially a spear head with the sides at right 90 angles to each other. The section 14 is formed in a similar manner except that the end 14 is much larger than the end 13, so that there is very little circumferential stretching or distension of the garment at the leg openings 5 and 6, but immediately above the leg openings the garment is stretchable to an appreciable extent. The material is not only stretchable but is elastic so that it will move back to its normal position when released, and consequently presents a constricting member for constricting the hips and parts of the body adjacent thereto so as to mold or round 1 these parts into the desired position without discomfort. As the front and-rear of the garment stretch when sitting down or bending it is further desirable that the crotch strap stretch, and consequently the crotch has been made freely stretchable forwardly and rearwardly of the garment as indicated by the arrow 17, thus taking care of any strains on the strap, and preventing any bunching action.
I claim:
1. An article of the character described, comprising a substantially triangular shaped front,
-a similarly shaped back, lines of seams at the sides connecting the front and back together, binding members at the lower part of the front and back connecting the front and back together and presenting leg openings, and a pair of overlapping members stitched together in their overlapped position forming a crotch strap connected at its respective ends respectively to the front and back and to the last mentioned binding members, said front and back being stretchable circumferentially of the garment, and the crotch strap being resilient only forwardly and rearwardly of the garment.
2. A panties comprising a body formed of fabric elastic circumferentially and inelastic longitudinally, and a crotch strap of fabric elastic, forwardly and rearwardly, said body being formed with a front and back portion substantially triangular in shape when lying fiat, a notch in the lower edge of each portion, said strap being formed from a plurality of overlapping members permanently connected together, each member having an end, the respective ends of the strap fitting into the respective notches in the body, and lines of stitching securing the last mentioned ends to said body.
3. An article of the character described comprising a front, a back, lines of stitching at the sides connecting the front and back together, binding members at the lower part of the front and back connecting the front and back together and presenting leg openings, and a pair of overlapping members connected together and in their overlapped position presenting a crotch LONG.
