One of the objects of my invention is the provision of an improved slip having a novel Construction which imparts to the garment superior fitting qualities and affords increased comfort to the wearer by providing soft elastcity at the points of Stress.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a princess cut slip having no side seams and afiording a smooth body contour fit.

Referring to the drawings, the slip is shown as comprising a skirt portion 11 and a bodice portion 12, shaped as will be hereinafter described, to conform to the figure. The slip includes a double-ply front shadow panel 13 extending the full length of the slip to form part of both the bodice and skirt portions. The upper ply 14 of the panel 13 is forme-:i preferably of a lace fabric, while the lower ply 16 is formed preferably of the same material as the other panels, hereinafter to be described. Both

As will be seen by reference to FIG. 1, the upper or bodice portion of the front panel 13 which terminates in a V-shaped neckline forms substantially one-half of each of the

breast cups

29 and 31. The remaining portion of each breast cup is formed by a panel 32 which is shaped substantially like that illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 4. Each panel 32 includes a generally quadrilateral portion 33 integral with a band portion 34 which extends rearwardly, the ends of the band portions 34 meeting substantially medially of the back and being stitched together along a seam line 36. Each panel 32 is stitched to a corresponding edge of the front panel 13 along a seam line 37 which will be substantially in alignment with the vertical axis of a respective breast. Each panel 32 further is stitched to the

23 and 24 and to the upper edge 38 of the rear panel 23.

The panels 32 are formed from elastic material and are each cut on a bias, substantially as illustrated in FIG. 4, to alford maximum Stretch in a circumferential direction. I have found that Spandex Lace currently available on the market is a highly desirable material for the panels since the lace is elastic and may be fabricated to match the pattern of the front panel 14.

Suitable adjustable shoulder straps 41 are attached at spaced points to the upper edges of the elastic band portions 34 and to the upper edges of the

29 and 31 at points coinciding with the vertical seam 37 of each breast cup. Lace edgings 42 and 43 may be stitched to the upper and lower edges, respectively, of the garment, as desired.

Various changes coming within the spirit of my invention may suggest themselves to those skilled in the art; hence, I do not wish to be limited to the specific embodiments shown and described or uses mentioned, but intend the same to be merely exemplary, the scope of my invention being limited only by the appended clairns.

I claim:

1. A woman's slip having breast cups, comprising (a) a substantially non-stretchable central front panel extending substantially the full length of the slip with the upper portion of said front panel having generally convex edges and forming a part of each of the breast cups.

(b) a pair of side panels stitched respectively to opposite side edges of the front panel,

(c) said side panels extending and being stretchable circumferentially and being stitched together along a vertical seam line centrally of the back,

(d) the seam lines which join the front and side panels extending downwardly from immediately below the breast cups to substantially the lowermost edge of the front panel,

(e) a pair of bias-cut elastic panels stitched to the upper portions of the side edges of the front panel and to the top edges of the side panels,

(f) said elastic panels forming with the upper portion of the said front panel complete breast cups,

(g) said elastic panels each having a relatively narrow integral band portion extending circumferentially rearwardly and being stitched together at the back,

(h) and shoulder straps attached to the upper edges of the breast cups and to the band portions.

2. A woman's slip having breast cups comprising (a) a substantially non-stretchable central front panel extending substantially the full length of the slip with the upper portion of said front panel adapted to extend substantially between the vertical axes of the &149342 breasts of the wearer and forming substantially onehalf of each of the breast cups,

(b) a pair of side panels stitched respectively to oppo site side edges of the front panel,

(c) said side panels extending and being stretchable V circumferentially and being stitched together along a V vertical seam line centrally of the back,

(e) a pair of bias-cut elastic panels stitched to the upper portons of the side edges of the front panel and to the top edges of the side panels,

(f) said elastic panels forming with the upper portion of said front panel complete breast cups,

(g) said elastic panels each having a relatively narrow integral band portion extending circnmferentially rearwardly and being stitched together at the back,

(h) and shoulder straps attached to the upper edges f the breast cups and the band portions.

3. A womarfs slip having breast cups comprising (a) a substantially non-stretchable central front panel extending substantially the full length of' the slip with the upper portion of said front panel having generally convex edges and forming a part of each of the breast cups,

(c) said side panels extending and being stretchable c ircumferentially and being stitched together along a vertical seam line centrally of the back,

(d) the seam lines which join the front and side panels extendng downwardly from immediately below the breast cups to substantially the lowermost edge of the front panel,

(e) each side panel having an upper edge extending in a concave curve upwardly and rearwardly from the upper end of the seam line joining said side panel and front panel to a point substantially at the elevation of the transverse axis of the breast cups and then extending in a concave curve downwardly and rearwardly substantially to the waistline,

(f), the last mentioned curved edgestogether forming a substantially V-formaton,

(g) a substantially triangular panel stitched .to the edges of said side panels defining said V-formation,

(h) and a pair of' biasacut elastic panels stitched to the first mentioned arcuately curved edges of the side panels,

(i) said elastic panels forming with the upper portion of said front panel' complete breast cups,

(j) said elastic panels each having a relatively narrow integral band portion extending circumferentially rearwardly and being stitched to said triangular panel and to each other at their end portions,

(k) and shoulder straps attached to the upper edges of the breast cups and to the band portions.

4. A womans slip having breast cups comprising (a) a substantially non-stretchable central front panel extending substantially the full length of the slip with the upper portion of said front panel adapted to eX- tend substantially between the vertical axes of the breasts of a wearer and forming substantially onehalf of each of the breast cups,

(d) the seam lines-which join the front and side panels extending downwardly from immediately below the breast cups to substantially the lower-most edge of the front panel,

(e) each'of said side panels having an upper edge eX- tending in a concave curve upwardly and rearwardly from the upper end of the seam line joining said side panel and front panel to a point substantially at the elevation of the transverse axis of the breast cups,

(f) said edge then extending in a concave curve downwardly and rearwardly substantially to the waistline,

(g) the last mentioned curved edges together forming a substantially V-forrnation,

(h) a *substantially triangular panel stitched to the edges of said side panels defining said V-formation,

(i) a pair of bias-cut elastic panels stitched to the first mentioned arcuately curved edges of the side panels,

(j) said elastic panels forming with the upper portion of said front panel complete breast cups,

(k)` said elastic panels, each having a relatively narrow* integral band portion extending circurnferentially rearwardly and being stitched to said triangular panel and to each other at their end portions,

(l) a bias-cnt elastic band stitched to the upper marginal edges of said bias-cnt elastic panels and extend ing circumferentially rearwardly between the side edges of the front panel, and

(m) shoulder straps attached to the upper edges of'the breast cups and to the band portions.

Claims

1. A WOMAN''S SLIP HAVING BREAST CUPS, COMPRISING (A) A SUBSTANTIALLY NON-STRETCHABLE CENTRAL FRONT PANEL EXTENDING SUBSTANTIALLY THE FULL LENGTH OF THE SLIP WITH THE UPPER PORTION OF SAID FRONT PANEL HAVING GENERALLY CONVEX EDGES AND FORMING A PART OF EACH OF THE BREAST CUPS. (B) A PAIR OF SIDE PANELS STITCHED RESPECTIVELY TO OPPOSITE SIDE EDGES OF THE FRONT PANEL, (C) SAID SIDE PANELS EXTENDING AND BEING STRETCHABLE CIRCUMFERENTIALLY AND BEING STITCHED TOGETHER ALONG A VERTICAL SEAM LINE CENTRALLY OF THE BACK, (D) THE SEAM LINES WHICH JOIN THE FRONT AND SIDE PANELS EXTENDING DOWNWARDLY FROM IMMEDIATELY BELOW THE BREAST CUPS TO SUBSTANTIALLY THE LOWERMOST EDGE OF THE FRONT PANEL, (E) A PAIR OF BIAS-CUT ELASTIC PANELS STITCHED TO THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE SIDE EDGES OF THE FRONT PANEL AND TO THE TOP EDGES OF THE SIDE PANELS, (F) SAID ELASTIC PANELS FORMING WITH THE UPPER PORTION OF THE SAID FRONT PANEL COMPLETE BREAST CUPS, (G) SAID ELASTIC PANELS EACH HAVING A RELATIVELY NARROW INTEGRAL BAND PORTION EXTENDING CIRCUMFERENTIALLY REARWARDLY AND BEING STITCHED TOGETHER AT THE BACK, (H) AND SHOULDER STRAPS ATTACHED TO THE UPPER EDGES OF THE BREAST CUPS AND TO THE BAND PORTIONS.
