Description
United States Patent O 3,144,869 UNDERGARMENTS Ronald L. Blair, 2650 W. Belden Ave., Chicago, Ill. Filed Mar. 5, 1962, Ser. No. 177,446 2 Claims. (Cl. 12S-498) This invention relates to undergarments, more particularly to an undergarment which includes a brassiere assembly.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide an undergarment incorporating a brassiere assembly wherein the undergarment has a low cut back portion which molds the iiesh of the wearer and provides a smooth back line.
With the common and accepted use of low cut back gowns, the undergarments on the market have been deticient in that the flesh of the wearer bulges out of the undergarment and is decidedly unattractive. With the present invention the flesh of the wearer is molded within the edges of the undergarment so that unsightly overlapping of flesh or bulging thereof is eliminated.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
FIGURE 1 is a rear view of an undergarment in accordance with this invention;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the rear portion of the undergarment, showing particularly the features of this invention.
The invention herein consists primarily in the rear portion of the undergarment and a detailed description is herein provided.
The front portion of the garment comprises a pair of breast cups secured to a central front section 12. Lower front panel sections (not seen) are secured to the breast cups 10, as well as to the front central section 12. Non-elastic side sections 14 are secured both to the sides of the breast cups and to the lower front panels.
The structure forming this invention resides in the construction of the rear panels generally indicated by the numeral 16. Each of the rear panels is formed of a center back section 18 and a shoulder blade covering section. The center back section 18 is formed of an elastic material having only a horizontal one-way stretch, as indicated by the arrows. It is cut to provide an upper rectilinear edge 22 which extends at an inclined angle to provide a diagonal upper edge 24 extending from the back upwardly so that the upper end 26 of said section forms a portion of the armpit portion of the undergarment. The upper end of section 18 is of generally arcuate shape.
Secured to the rectilinear edge 22 of each of the center back sections 18 is an upper top section 20 which forms the shoulder blade covering section. The lower edge of the upper top section has a rectilinear lower edge 23 and is secured along lines of stitching 28 to the upper rectilinear edge of the center back section 18. The upper end of the upper top section 20 indicated by the number 30 extends upwardly to form a part of the shoulder strap. It will be `seen that the outer edge 32 of the section 20 extends along a portion of the armpit of the wearer and the upper outer edge 26 of the center back section 18 extends along the lower portion of the armpit of the wearer.
The upper section 20 is formed of an elastic material and is cut on a bias so that the stretch extends in one direction and the stretch runs approximately 90 to the horizontal of the undergarment. The stretch of section 20 is indicated by the arrows. The outer edge of the upper section 20 is curvilinear as indicated by the numeral 34 and as best seen in FIG. l. The back portions 16 when joined together form a continuous curved 3,144,869 Patented Aug. 18, 1964 "ice upper edge which extends below the upper part of the back of the wearer so that when the undergarment is worn a low cut is provided in the rear of the undergarment. It will be further seen that the diagonal edges 24 of the center back sections 18 form a generally V- shaped configuration.
Secured to the upper ends of the shoulder blade covering sections 20 are shoulder straps 36 which are suitably connected to the front of the undergarment. An elastic band 38 is secured to the lower end of the undergarment and said band has a horizontal stretch.
The undergarment is provided with interlocking fastening elements which are secured in any conventional manner. As shown, particularly in FIG. 2, female fastening elements 4t) are secured along the vertical edge of one of the rear sections as indicated at 42. Also secured to said edge is a strip of fabric 44 which supports additional female fastening elements 40'. Male fastening elements 46, such as hooks, are secured to the opposite vertical edge of the rear panel so that they may be interlocked with the female fastening elements 40 or 40, as is well understood.
With this invention it will be seen that the rear sections form a support which molds the ilesh of the wearer so that bulging of the flesh along the edges which would normally occur is eliminated and that therefore with this constructiona smoother line is formed in the body of the wearer.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
