Abstract

751,245. Foundation garments. LEETHEMS (TWILFIT), Ltd. June 24, 1954 [March 5, 1954], No. 6491/54. Class 141. A foundation garment comprises a centre back panel 1 having a oneway vertical stretch, and a transverse lower marginal panel 4, having a one-way horizontal stretch, extending across the lower edge 1b of the back panel to or adjacent the front of the garment, and adapted to effect a resilient transverse grip under the buttocks so as to prevent the garment riding up the body. Preferably, the marginal panel 4 increases in depth from a minimum at the centre of the back to a maximum at its front ends 3a where it is connected to the lower side edges of a front panel 3. The panel 3 may be of non-elastic or vertically stretching material, and is curved inwardly at the bottom. Side panels 2 have a one-way horizontal stretch. The garment may have a vertical slit closed by means of a zip fastener, or it may be made to open completely.
