This invention relates to ladies foundation garments and is particularly concerned with the provision of a novel and improved type of girdle having important advantages.
The front panel I of the garment may likewise berof materialstretchable up and down but not across, or, if desired, of material substantially inelastic or unstretchable both vertically and An object of the invention is to provide a 5 horizontally. foundation garment which attains a firm and The panels 2, 2, interposed between thefront effective control over the buttocks and thighs of panels 1 and 3, are of two-way stretch fabric, 1. e., the wearer and whichat the same time enables material capable of stretching not only up and advantageous freedom of movement of the wearer down but also across. Each of the intermediate inwalking and sitting, i l panels 2, as shown, extends from the top to the 'More specifically, the pinvention provides a bottom of the girdle at the front, between the foundation garment having at the rear apanel front panel I and the front extensions of the ofrmate ia c p Stretching up and down panel 3. Each panel 2 also extends around the b across the w re Which Panel is narrow sides of the garment intothe rear portion thereof, a top and is so wide at its bottom as t between the top of the garment and the edges of extend not only over the lower portion; of the t rear panel 3 buttocks but also around the sides of the thighs panels 2 2 are joined at their front edges and partly. to e ro of the W to the adjacent edges/of the panel by stitching tions of thegarment at the sides of sald rear 4, 4, which Stitching is preferably f zig zag chap (P1 n3 iigg zg ziezgii gfiii. z ig g fig 22 actor to permit the desired stretching along the v' I a e l seams. Thereby it covers the elasticity 1n the waist llne region enables the lower portions of the wearers buttocks and the garment to contract effectively over small lines sides of the thighs. and thereby to be readily adaptable to figures having maximum difference between waist and hip measures.
In Figs. 3 and 4, the invention is shown embodied in a garment of the panty-girdle type. The panels are generally the same as those shown in Figs. 1 and 2, except that they extend into the leg portions 8, B of the garment. Also, the rear panel is shoum'zaszofzmore triangular shape than is the rear panel in Figs. '1 and '2. The panels in Figs. 3 and 4 are designated by the same reference numerals as the corresponding panels in Figs. 1 and 2, except for the addition-of a prime to each of said numerals in Figs. 3 and 4.
As will be apparent, the girdles inconnection with which the invention is illus'tratedmay "form portions of other garments, such -as the wellknown combinations in which :a girdle and a brassiere form part of the same garment. In Figs. 3 and 4, the girdle is shown as having joined thereto at its top a circumferentially elastic band sllravingsshortwertical stays fl of suitable stiff- :material, as is customary in many 1 girdles.
