UNITE STATES CHAUNOEY S. KELLOGG, OF NEWV ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
SH l RT-BOSOM PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,391, dated May 13, 1884.
Application fired August 23, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHAUNOEY S. KELLOGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Bosom Protectors,
of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in shirt-bosom protectors, and has for its objects to protect the shirt-bosom from perspiration, and to render the body of the wearer cooler and more comfortable in hot weather. These obj ects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a front elevation.
The letter A indicates the upper section of the protector, which is made entirely of celluloid.
O are apertures in the upper corners of the upper section of the protector, by means of which a tape string, D, is attached thereto for the purpose of fastening the upper part of the protector to the body of the wearer by being placed around the back of the neck.
B is the lower section of the protector, and is overlapped by the upper section, A, about three-fourths of an inch, which is made entirely of celluloid.
O E are openings in the upper and lower sections for the passage of tape fastenings to connect the upper and lower sections to each other and hold them in place.
E are openings at the lower corners of the lower section for the passage of the tape strings F, by means of which the lower sec-, tion is secured to the body of the wearer.
G is a small piece of cloth having a buttonhole, by means of which the protector may be buttoned to the drawers in the same manner as a shirt is buttoned thereto.
The bosom-protector is made of a shape to conform to the bust of the wearer, but to stand out therefrom about one and one-fourth inch,
so as only to touch the body at the top, bottom, and sides, and is intended to be worn between the under and outside shirts. It is made in upper and lower sections, in order that one section may slide over the other, and thus permit the wearer to bend over freely in any direction.
I construct the protector of celluloid in strips, forming a frame of pieces of about threesixteenths of an inch wide and one-sixteenth of an inch'thick. These are connected to each other by up and down strips one-eighth of an inch wide by one-sixteenth of an inch thick, placed equidistant from each othersay about 0ne-fourth of an inch apart-so the shirt cannot sink between the strips. The upper and lower sections oi'theprotector are, when placed together, about the size of an ordinary shirtbosom, each section being about nine inches high.
A shirt-bosom protector made of celluloid in the manner described effectually protects the shirt-bosom from the effects of perspiration of the body, the wearer is cooler, and the unpleasant effects of wearing a wet shirt are prevented.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and to claim 1sl. A shirt-bosom protector made of celluloid, having an upper and lower section, as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a shirt-bosom protector, the combination of upper section, A, made of celluloid, having apertures O C and tape D, adapted to fit the bust, with section B, having apertures E E, as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatureiu presence of two witnesses.
GHAUNOEY S. KELLOGG.
