IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRTBOSOIVIS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,!31, dated September 1S, 1866.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it knownthat I, G. F. PIDGiN, of Boston, Sutt'olk county, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Shirt- Bosom and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawings, forming` part ot' this specification. A

The principal objects ot the present invention are, first, to increase the exibility ofthe shirt-bosom, so as to allow it to yield or give` to the forward and backward motion of the wearer; and, second, to diminish the cost of the article, and also to make it lighter, both of which objects are secured by the present invention, as will be obvious from the following detailed description ot the same, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure l is a view of the front side of the bosom, and Fig. 2 a view ot' the back or rear side ofthe same.

A in the drawings represents the shirtbosom, which maybe made of linen, cotton, or of any other materia-l ordinarily used therefor, or of paper, the bosoln, when made of paper, being stitched or otherwise prepared in imitation of a linen shirt-bosom. This shirt-bosom is cut or hollowed out at B along its sides, and also at its top and lower ends, O and D, with the corners E rounded. By giving this form or outline to the bosom it is made to more perfectly fit and correspond to the form of the person, and also to yield to the forward and backward motions ot' the wearer.

Across each end of the bosom A, and upon its back or rear side, a strip, F, ot' cloth or tenacious paper is secured, in the center ot' each of which, and at the point where the shirtbosom is cut or hollowed out, a button-hole, G, is made, for the purpose ot' securing or attaching the bosom to a shirt by buttoning, or in any other similar manner.

By using the tenacious paper strips F Vthe cost ot' the bosom is greatly reduced, and, be-

sides, the bosom is rendered much lighter and" more flexible, and thus more adjustable t0 the form of the wearer and, furthermore, by means of the strips F, in which the buttonholes are made, the buttoning of the bosom to the shirt is rendered easy andv free ot accomplishment.

From the above description ot' my improved shirt-bosom, it is plainly obvious that it is reversible, and can be worn with either one or the other of its two ends exposed or uppermost, according to which is the cleaner' or better in appearance-a quite iinportantadvantage.`

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shirt-bosom cut or hollowed out at its sides B and ends O D, in combination with the strips F, substantially as and for the purpose described.
