TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Be it known that we, JOHN STADERMANN and HENRY SAUnnnrnn, of the city, county, and State ot New York, have invented a new and useful article to be applied to male and female-dresses, and which we term a Dress Improver; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilledlin the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, v
This invention -relates to a new and useful device to be applicdtc male and female garments, for the purpose of giving fullness to the same. The invention is more especially designed for giving fullness to the chest of male wearers and to supersede the use of padding in the upper part of the fronts of vests, and also to give prominence to the waists of ladies dresses in front of the breasts. The invention is a modification of and an improvement upon a patent granted to ns December 11, 1866. This patented article now hasn. ready sale, and, ns artificial breasts, is far superior to anything in the market. Our within-described improvement renders the invention far more valuable by extending its use or application. This result is attained by having the swaged wire cloth or wire gauze divided into two parts, and connected when necessary by hooks and eyes, slides, or elastics, so that they may be attached to or inserted in the garment. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figurel is a view of a femalehaving cnr invention applied to it.
Figure, 2, a detached front view of the same.'
Figure 3, aside view of one of the parts of the same.
Similarletters of reference indicate like parts.
The device is composed of two parts A A, constructed of Wire gauze or wire cloth swaged with a prominence or protubera-nce, @,Yof such form as to correspond to a proper fullness of the chest orbreast. These parts may:
be inserted in the bosom of thewaist of a ladies' dress between the lining and theexterior fabric, or they may be secured to thc outer side of the lining and connected by hooks and eyes b, slides, or elastics, shown in red, fig. 2. By this modification, which renders the device capable of being attached to the dress so as to form a part thereof, it.cannot lget ont of proper position, and is far superior to padding, being cool, and not preventing, when applied to ladies dresses, the development of the natural breasts, the non-developmentof these parts being an objection attending paddingor wedding. For gentleinens vests they are also superior to padding, as they are flexible, permit of a free ventilation, and will retain indefinitely their proper shape.
I Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The two wire' gauze or wire cloth parts A A., swaged cach with a protuberance, a, and in such a form as' to admit of being inserted in orattached tothe garment, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
We also claim the connecting of said parts together by hooks and eyes, slides, elastics, or other fastening which will admit of said parts being connected and disconnected with facility and still keep the parts in proper position, substantially as described.
' JOHN STADERMANN,
HENRY SAUERBIER.
