Description

PATENT FFTCFa OLARISSA PRESTON, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSETS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,856, dated May 23, 1865.
.To all whom it may concern.' v
Be it known that I, GLAEIssA PRESTON, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Corset; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speeication, in Which- Figure l represents a perspective front view ot this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a partial rear elevation of the same in a larger scale than the previous iigures. Fig. 4 is a horizon-tal section of the same, the line x a', Fig. 3, indicating the plane of section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
This invention relates to a combined corset and supporter made to lace in the back and to clasp or hook in front, so that its width can be readily adjusted and provided with an extension-buckle, the brace of which is made to extend part or all round the body, and which may be out separate from the corset and at'- tached to it, or formed with the same, as may be desirable. The extension-brace is adjusted to therequisite Width by a hook catching in different slots or in any other suitable manner, whereby the same can be readily accommodated to the body of the wearer.
A represents a corset provided with hooks or clasps a in front, which are constructed in any desirable manner, so that the same can bereadily fastened and unfastened. The shape of my corset is that of an ordinary corset, and it is provided 'with a series of holes, b, on the back to receive the lacing o. By means of this lacing the width of the corset can be readily adjusted, and it' this is once accomplished the lacing may remain undisturbed, the corset being fastened or unfastened by thc hooks or clasps a. i
Suspenders d, which are firmly secured to the back part ofthe corset, and which are adjustable by buckles e in front, serve to support the corset and prevent the same from slipping down or getting out of position accidentally. These supporters may be combined Withelastic strips f, that are interposed between their rigid ends or otherwise connected thereto, and by the action of which said suspenders are enabled' to accommodate themselves to the motions of the body of the wearer. A bustle, B, is connected to the corset A, and this bustle may be cut separate from the corset and attached thereto, or it may be formed with the corset, and it is provided with a brace, g, which may be made of a round or flat strip of metal or other suitable material,
and which extends either partly or wholly round the body. This brace is so arranged that it can be extended or contracted to suit the convenience of the wearer, and in order to effect this purpose one end of the brace forms a hook, i, which can be made to catch into diiferent holes j in the other end, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. By this arrangement the brace can be readily adjusted, according to the width ot' the corset or to suit the convenience of the wearer.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A combined corset and supporter arranged with hooks or clasps a in front, and made to lace in the rear, and provided with a bustle, B, and extension-brace g, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
MRS. OLARISSA PRESTON.
