MATCH-SAFE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,500, dated December 4, 1883,

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS B. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Posey and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and liseful Improvements in Match-Safes, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. This invention relates to improvements in match-safes; and it has for its object to utilize the handles of domestic utensils for that purpose. This object is attained by thedevice illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming apart 0f this specication, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section. Fig. 4 is a modification.

The letter A indicates the matchsafe, forming a part of the handle of a bucketor pail. Bis the bail. Gis the cover, hinged at D, and

lined on the inside with sand-paper F, and

providedwith a catch, E, to hold it down when shut.

The safe may be made of any suitable material-such as sheet metal or wood-and the cover C may be lined with any abrasive Inaterial, F, adapted to strike matches upon.

G is a spring. (Shown in Fig. 4.)
