Be it known that I, GEORGE Oris TUCKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Charleston, in the county of Coles and State of Illinois,have invented certain new and use'- ful Improvements in Chimney- Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to clean all the soot and ashes out of the chimney at any time in a thorough manner without having to take down the stoves and pipes. The pan is of a suitable size and shape to lit the chimney in which it is to be used and is to be constructed of such material that will render it substantial and durable.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan View of my invention uin position in a chimney, the chimney being in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through my invention, parts being in elevation. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of my invention. Fig. 4 is a detail elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, the parts being detached.

1 represents a chimney in section of approved type.

2 represents the soot-pan proper. This pan is preferably constructed of cast-iron and in shape is made to tit the bottom of a flue and is of such length that it will project outward beyond the flue into the room, as clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 2. The pan is cylindrical in cross-section except at that portion indicated by the reference-numeral 3, at which point the top of the pan is out away, while the sides of the pan are ilared outwardly to form the ianges or deflecting sides 4, `the edges of which form a close joint with the sides of a iiue, as shown in the drawings. The cylindrical part of the pan is long enough to reach from the wall of the chimney and at the same time extend into the room a suitable distance. In the bottom of that portion of the cylinder that extends into the room is formed an opening 5, from which depends an annular fiange 6, from one side of which extends a pin '7, to be hereinafter referred to.

8 is a cap adapted to tit around the depending flange 6 snugly, in the upper edge of which is out a slot 9, whioh,with pin 7, forms a bayonet-joint.

the end wall of the pan 2, while the trunnion l2 is journaled in the cap 13, which is screwthreaded to the outer end of the pan. The trunnion 12 has an elongated rectangular end 14, on which a suitable crank is adapted to be secured to revolve the conveyer. It is preferable that this soot-pan be iitted in the chimneyso that the accumulation of soot and ashes will be deposited in that portion of the pan within the chimney, and whenever desired this accumulation of soot and ashes may be removed by revolving the conveyer 10 by means of the crank, whereupon by reason oi' the construction of the conveyer the soot and ashes will be conveyed through the pan to the opening 5 in the bottom thereof, through which the soot and ashes will ow into a bag or other receptacle properly secured to the depending flange 6 inside of the room.

When the machine is not in operation, the cap 8 is secured to the depending ilange,there by preventing the deposit of the soot and ashes in the room.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A soot-pan adapted to be builtin a chimney comprisinga semioylindrical portion, outwardly-daring side walls integral with and extending upwardly from said portion, and a cy' lindrical portion integral with and extending forwardly from the semioylindrical portion and provided with a suitable discharge-out,- let, and a suitable conveyerjournaled on the end wall of the semioylindrical and cylindrical portions.

2. The combination of a soot-pan comprising a cylindrical portion, a semioylindrical portion integral therewith and extending therefrom, flaring side walls extending upward from said semioylindrical portion, an opening in the forward end of the cylindrical portion,a depending annular flange surrounding said `opening and a cap detachably secured on said flange, a cap closing the outer end of the cylindrical portion and a spiral conveyer suitably journaled within said pau and means to revolve said conveyer.
