Description

UNITED STATES HENRY M. SCHMIDT, 0F SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
SAFE-DOOR BOOK-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,535, dated February 27, 1894.
Application filed July 25, 1893. Serial No. 481.412. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, HENRY M. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safe-Door Book-Racks; andi do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
My invention is a book-rack upon the inside of a safe door for the purpose of receiving and holding a book such as is perhaps too large to go within the book space within the safe, and consists of the special features described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the safe door showing book in place. Fig. 2 is an end view of the door of the sate showingbook partly Within the rack.
In the drawings, A is the door.
B is the book.
C is the pocket in which the book is set. Pocket C is secured to the inside of the safe door.
D is the top cap or receptacle for the book and, as shown in Fig. 2 maybe hinged to the safe door so as to turn up when it is desired to place a book within the rack or to take it therefrom.
Any method of hinging may be used. It is obvious that a rod could be so bent and secured in the edges ot" the safe door, or to the inside of the safe door, so as to turn down over the edge of the book andhold it in position. This I claim the right to do instead of using the hinged cap shown in Figs. l and 2.
This rack or means of forming a book receptacle on a safe door can be attached to any safe and may be so attached as to be adjustable, that is, the upper groove or holder may be adjnstably secured to the sat'e door so as to be moved upward or downward to engage the top of a book of any size.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire 'to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A book receptacle for a safe consisting of a pocket secured across the inside of the safe door nearits bottom, and a hinged cap secured near the top of the inside of the safe door and adapted to be turned down over the upper edge of the book when placed Within the pocket, to hold it against the door, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY M. SCHMIDT.
