Description

(No Model.)
P. J. PATTERSON.
POCKET HAND STAMP.
Patented Oct. 2, 1883.
G c E I a s r Q+WJH6| 0 a WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PEMBROKE J'. BATTERSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
POCKET HAND-STAMP:
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,837, dated October 2, 1883 Application filed April 9, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, PEMBROKE J. PATTER- soN, of- Ohicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket Hand-Stamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, in which Figure 1 is a perspective representation of a pocket hand-stamp embodying my improvement; Fig. 2, a back face View of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a vertical cross-section of Fig. 2.
The nature of the present invention consists in a dish-shaped case which is hollow and cut through, so as to form a segmentcover to hold the inking-pad, and a handle part to support the stamp proper and form an ink-receptacle. The cover is hinged to the hand part by the same hinge that supports the lid to the ink-receptacle, and the cover and lid are held open by the same coil-spring on the hinge-bolt, as the whole is hereinafter fully described and shown.
' A, Figs. 1 and 2, represents .what I term the hand part of the stamp, which is thedisk with the cover cut from it, there being two disks connected together by a band part,- G, which also is cut in two parts and soldered or brazed to the hand part and cover. A plate, I, is soldered to the inside of the cover B, for the support of an ordinary inking-pad, G. A strip of metal, L, is soldered to the inside of the hand part A, to support the stamp D of any desired printing-face. The hinge shown at E supports the cover B, and also the lid F to the ink-receptacle l, and it is what. is known as a coil-spring hinge that is, a coil-spring on the bolt of the hinge holds both the cover and lid open when they are not fastened by their respective catches. The catch holding the cover B to the hand part Ais shown at v m, and the catch for holding the lid F shut is shown at n. Both are of ordinary construction. This construction is such that the loosening of the spring-catch v m permits the cover B to be thrown back and out of the way and held there, as shown by dotted lines 00, for the stamp to make an impression.
The object of making the case when closed in disk form is that it holds more ink and is the better form to carry in the pocket. Thin metal I find the better material for the case, as it'may be plated or otherwise rendered noncorrosive and ornamented.
- I claim as my invention-'- A pocket hand-stamp made in disk form, with a segment-cover, B, carrying the inkingpad, and the hand part A, provided with an ink-receptacle, Z, the, lid F and the cover B being hinged to the same pivot-bolt and held open by the spring-hinge, as'and for the purpose specified.
