To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, FRAN-z A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag- Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in bag frames, particularly vto the typeV in which an intermediate frame member is employed, and has for its object, an improved method of securing the leather or'fabric of which the partition is formed, to the intermediate frame member, thereby dispensing with the ordinary filling plate or inlay, which was held in position by means of rivets.

In carrying out my invention, I make use of the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l represents a side elevation of a purse in closed position, embodying the principles of my invention.

In the drawings, a and b represent the usual outside pair Of frame members, and 0 the usual intermediate frame member, which are pivotally secured at their lower end portions by means of suitable pins or rivets (l, or they may be pivotally connected with each other in any other well-known manner. The outside frame members a and b, each comprising a main body portion and end members extending therefrom, are formed from an unbroken flat piece of sheet metal, and so formed by means of suitable punches and dies, that a continuous integral, downwardly-extending narrow flange e, extending around the inner edge of said body portion and the endmembers, is formed. The intermediate portion of the mainV body portion and end members, between the upper and lower portions of the frame member, Ais preferably beveled, as clearly indicated in the drawings. y

In this way, the material from which the partition is made, is held firmly secured to the intermediate frame member without any liability tO separate, and without the use of filling plates and rivets.

The shape or configuration of the flange z' of the intermediate frame member, can be made to conform to any desired shape of` the frame members a and b, and is preferably made of a Width so that when the frame members are in their closed position, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, said flange projects slightly above the frame members a and b. Theflanges e of the frame members a and b are preferably made of such a depth as to engage with the flange z' of the intermediate frame member, and to permit the convex portions c-c of the intermediate frame member to be received into the frame members a and It will thus be seen that I have provided a novel and serviceable means for securing the partition of the bag body to the intermediate frame member, in such a way as to accomplish fully the results sought for, namely, that of firmly securing the partition to the intermediate frame member without the liability of its accidental separation in ordinary or reasonable use, without the use of lling plates and rivets.

Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a practical and highly eflicient one, and while the structure described is the preferred embodiment of` my present invention, I do not care to restrict myself to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement herein set forth, it being obvious that minor variations thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic, and such departures from what is herein described and claimed, notv involving invention, I consider within the scope and terms of my claims.

I claim:

1. In a device of the character described, two outside bag frame members, an intermediate bag frame member, and means for pivotally connecting the lower ends of said bag frame members, the outside bag Jframe members each comprising a channeled strip formed from an unbroken flat piece of sheet metal, and a continuous flange extending around the inner edge of each of said mem bers, the intermediate frame member comprising a channeled strip provided with convex portions formed from an unbroken flat piece of sheet metal, and provided with a continuous flange extending around the upper portion of said frame member,`the flange of said intermediate member being formed by folding the metal of said frame member together and adapted to lie between the continuous flanges of the outside frame members and projecting beyond said frame members.

A hand bag comprising two outside frame members, an intermediate bag framev member and means for pivotalflyy connecting the llower* ends of said bag frame members, the intermediate frame member comprising a channeled strip formed from an unbroken flat piece of sheet metal, and provided' with a continuous flange formed by folding the This specilication signed and witnessed this 11th day of November, 1915.
