Be it known that I, EDWARD GRAHAM WOODY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wilmington, in the county of New Hanover and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Ink-Pad Stand, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.

Theinvention relates toink stamping-pads; and its object is to provide a new and improved ink-pad stand or casin g for removably holding an ink-pad and preventing dust from Figure l is a perspective view of the. im-

The im proved in k-pad stand consists, essentially, of a casing A, adapted to contain an inkpad B of any approved construction,the casing being normally closed by a self-closing cover C, as shown in the drawings. The casing A consists of a bottom A', a back A2, a frontl A3, and sides A4, having their top edges in.

clined upwardly vand rearwardly from the short front A3 toward the high back A2,. as will be readily understood by referenceto the drawings. The sides A4 are provided at their upper ends with forwardly-extending lugs A5 for carrying pivots D, engaged by forwardlyextending lugs C, held on the upper end of the inclined cover C to allow said cover to swing rearward in the casing over the top of the pad B upon pressing the said cover t-o allow of inking the stamp on the pad B,`said cover upon releasing the pressure swinging forward to a closed position to render the casing dust-proof when the pad is not in use.

In order to insure a self-closin g of the cover C, I provide the rear top end C2 of the cover C with a weight E, preferably in the shape of an iron bar, as indicated in Fig. 2, the said top C2 of the cover extending rearwardly and resting on the top edge of the back A2 when the cover is closed, the lowery or front end of the cover abutting against aninclined project ion A6 at the upper end of the front A3 to forni a tight joint between the cover and the casing.` In a similar manner the sides of the cover extend against the under side of ledges A7 at the inclined top edges of the sides A4, so that dust cannot pass into the casing at any point lwhen the cover C is in a closed position.

It is understood that by having the lugs C vprojecting forwardly andthe pivots D carried by the lugs A5 a rapid self -closing of the cover C takes place, especially as the weight E bears downward and swings cover C forward after it has been opened by manualv pressure and released therefrom.

On the inside of the back A2 of the casing is secured a spring or catch F, adapted to hold the lid B of the ink-pad B in an open position, so that when the cover C is pushed rearward the inking-surface of the ink-pad B is exposed to permit of conveniently inking the stamp. If desired, the lid B' of the ink-pad may be wrenched off before the inkpad is placed in position in the casing.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An ink-pad stand,comprisinga casing for the reception of an ink-pad, and an inclined self-closing cover for the casing, and adapted .to swing rearwardly therein upon application of man ual'pressu re, to give access to the inkpad', said cover automatically swinging forward into a closed position upon release of the pressure, the cover then forming a dustproof joint with the front, back and sides of the casing, as set forth.

2. An ink-pad stand, comprising a casing having a low front, a high back, sides inclined upwardly and rearwardly, lugs projecting forwardly from the upper portion of the sides of the casing,'and a cover having `forwardly-extending lugs at its upper end,

for engaging pivots carried by said lugs on said sides, the free end of said cover being adapted to rest against a projection on the front of the casing, and the sides of the cover lOO abutting against anges on the sides of the casing, the top of the cover being adapted to be seated on the top edge of -said casing, substantially as shown and described.

3. An ink-pad stand, comprising a casing having alow front, a high back, sides inclined upwardly and rearwardly, lugs projecting forwardly from the upper portion of the sides of the casing, a cover having forwardly-eX- tending lugs at its upper end, for engaging pivots carried by saidlugs on said sides, the free end of said cover being adapted to rest against. a projection on the front of the casing, and the sides of the cover abutting against iianges on the sides of the casing, the top of the cover being adapted to be seated on the top edge of said casing, and a weight extending longitudinally on the upper end of said cover, as set forth.

4. An ink-pad stand, comprising a casing having a low front, a high back, sides inclined upwardly and rearwardly, lugs projecting forwardly from the upper portion of the sides of the easing, a cover having forwardly-extending lugs at its upper end, for engaging pivots carried by said lugs on said sides, the free end of said cover being adapted to rest against a projection on the front of the casing, and the sides of the cover abutting against flanges on the sides of the casing, the top of the cover being adapted to be seated on the top edge of said casing, a weight eX- tending longitudinally on the upper end of said cover for moving the cover into a closed position and holding it therein, and a catch on the inside of the back of the casing for engagement by the lid of the ink-pad to hold the lid open, as set forth.
