Definitions

  • the drinking-up usually associated with the bottle is put either over the bottle neck or over the lower part of the bottle.
  • a holding-strap encompassing the bottle in its longitudinal direction may additionally serve to fix the cup.
  • the present invention mainly consists in the provision of a case-bottle or canteen with a covering for protection as well as for insulation which consists of at least two detachable parts of synthetic plastics; the upper part of the covering is drawn over the bottle neck and fixed to the bottle by elastic fastening means also drawn over the bottle neck and over-lapping that edge of the upper part of the covering which embraces the bottle neck, whilst the lower part of the covering is given the shape of a drinking respectively eating-cup.
  • the fastening means is preferably a collar of resilient material tightly engaging the bottle neck and pressing the upper part of the covering tightly on to the bottle.
  • the inner surface of the covering, or the outer surface of the bottle, or both surfaces may be provided with spacers, ribs, or the like in order to create an insulating air jacket between bottle and covering
  • both parts of the covering may fit into each other with overvaulting edges or may be joined together by means of a thread.
  • the upper part of the covering may be provided on its outer surface with a further thread for fastening a detachable drinking-cup which covers the opening of the bottle.
  • Fig. 1 is a front view, partly in section, of one embodiment
  • FIG. 2 shows in a similar manner another embodiment
  • Fig. 3 illustrates similarly a third embodiment.
  • the aluminum bottle 20 with the bottle neck 21 and a screw cap 22 is of substantially oval shape in the embodiment according to Figs. 1 and 2, whilst in the embodiment according to Fig. 3 the bottle is substantially cylindrical.
  • the bottle 20 preferably consists of seamless drawn aluminum, but likewise it may be made from other materials including synthetic plastics.
  • the bottle 2d is provided with a covering consisting of the two parts 23 and 24 which are manufactured sepparately from the bottle proper out of molded or extruded synthetic plastics. Both parts 23 and 24 are put over the bottle 20 with their edges overlapping each other at their joint 25.
  • the upper part 23 is provided with a central opening 26 for the bottle neck 21.
  • the covering likewise may comprise more than two prefabricated parts. It is possible to shape rates Patent ice the lower part 24 covering the bottom of the bottle in such a way that it presents a drinking respectively eating cup. For taking off said cup from the bottle it is only necessary to draw it out of the overlapping joint 25.
  • the lower part 24 is provided with a standing base 27 and a recess 28 for the fastening strap 29.
  • the central opening 26 of the molded part 23 of the covering surrounding the bottle neck 21 is closed by a sealing collar 30.
  • the collar 30 engages with a cylindrical part tightly the bottle neck, whilst a funnel-shaped part of it overlaps the edge of the central opening 26 of the upper part of the covering 23. In this manner the central opening 26 surrounding the bottle neck 21 is safely protected against any penetration of dripping liquid and other matter.
  • the sealing collar 30 presses the part 23 tightly against the shoulder of the bottle 20 so that said upper part 23 of the covering is reliably held in its desired position.
  • the strap 31 around the bottle neck 21, connected with the fastening strap 29 in a conventional manner surrounds the sealing collar 30 and so encreases the firm engagement between the upper covering 23 and the bottle 2t).
  • the molded parts 23, 24 of the covering are manufactured by known molding presses or extruding machines in desired colours and of such compositions of synthetic materials as required to achieve the necessary strength and insulating properties. If desired e. g. the molded part 23 may receive an inner lining of insulating textile before it is joined to the bottle 20. In order to fix the covering on the bottle 20 only the sealing collar 30 has to be drawn over the bottle neck 21. The lower covering 24has to be placed over the bottom of the bottle 20 and fastenedby the fastening strap 29. If, however, the covering consists, e. g. of three molded parts with corresponding joints two of the parts may be secured together, whilst only the lower part 24 forming the drinking respectively eating cup remains detachable.
  • the inner surfaces of the covering parts 23 and 24 are provided with spacers or ribs 40 and 41, respectively, which determine a spacing between the surface of the bottle 20 and the inner surface of the covering and thereby create an air jacket 42 all over the bottle surface.
  • the ribs 40, 41 may be provided as well on the inner surface of the covering 23, 24 as on the outer surface of the bottle 20 or on both surfaces fronting each other.
  • the ribs 40, 41 extend either in longitudinal or transverse direction or are arranged lattice-like; the ribs may be integral with the surfaces or added later on. Size, direction, and cross-section of the ribs may be chosen to suit the intended use of the canteen as well as the insulating function of the air jacket 42.
  • the sealing collar 30 of rubber or the like additionally has a very good sealing effect with regard to the insulating air jacket 42 around the bottle neck 21.
  • the provision of the air jacket 42 prevent an exchange of heat, so that the beverage contained in the bottle remains hot respectively cold.
  • the ribs 41 of the cup part 24 of the covering may serve as measuring marks or the like to indicate the amount of liquid in the cup.
  • the parts 23 and 24 of the plastic covering may be joined together by a thread 52 as is shown for the cylindrical bottle with the flat bottom in the Fig. 3 which thread replaces the holding straps 29 and 31 shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
  • the upper part 23 of the covering may receive on its outer surface a further thread 50 in order to att'ach a-supplementalcup 51 covering the opening of t-hebottle
  • the invention is not restricted to the examples described and illustrated in the foregoing specification for it is als'o possible to provide ibott-lesof otherf shapes and cross-sections with the said coverings according 1 tor the invention;-
  • All parts/ f the case-bottle' or canteen may be manufactured with suitable strength. In case of wear or damage' the individual parts may bereplaced easily. Since the case+bottle or canteen-is provided with an air jacket 42. noJfurther insulating material is needed. The bottle may be separated' into its component parts so that a quick and easy cleansing is possible. The resistance to breakage ofthe covering 23, 24 is not diminished by the formation of the air'jacket and the bottle itself is always protected'against shocks by being housed in the covering. The penetration of dirt and foreign matter between covering and bottle "is also prevented.
  • said upper and lower cover means consisting of a synthetic plastic material; an annular resilient sealing and fastening means having an upper sealing portion tightly engaging .-said;bottle neck” in sealing engagement, and a lower widening sealing portion tightly engaging the outer surface of said upper cover'means along an' annular sealing portion adjacent said'smaller opening forsealing the same and for holding said upper cover means against pressure toward' said bottle neck; and strapmeans including a portion passingxabout said uppersealing portion of said annular sealing means, and another portion passing about said upper and lower cover means, said other portion including two strap parts and means for detachably connecting said two strap parts to each other so asto permit detachment of said cup-shaped lowercover means;
