UNITEDl STATES PATENT GFFICE.
EDXVARI) PERCIVAL, OF PORT HURON, MICHIGAN.
TUMBLER-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 278,040, dated May 22, 1883.
Application iiled December 8, 1882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that. l, EDWARD PERCWAL, ot' Port Huron. in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tumbler-Cleaners; and I herebyr declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of devices particularly designed for cleaning` tum blers, lamp-chimneys, tbc.
' The invention consists in the peculiar construction of a cylindrical or conical brush provided with rubber or other suitable wings, which project from two opposite sides of the brush-head, and which describe 'a circle of greater diameter .than that of the bristles or brush proper.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, A represents the brush-head, which I preferably form in two parts, A A2, and G is the handle. In eachportion of the head A, and projecting radially from their respective faces, are the bristles l), which are secured in place by any of the known means. Before the two parts ofthe head are secured together I place a sheet of rubber or other suitable material between the flat faces (No model.)
thereof, and then secure the whole together by nails or screws a, with the edges of the rubber projecting slightly beyond the ends of the contiguous bristles, thus forming,` wings F. Brushes of this character as ordinarily constructed, w hen d-ipped in hot water, the bristles become soft,=and in frequent use almost worthless, while in this construction I providea support to the bristles by the introduction of the rubber wings, which also tend to keep thedevice more central in the tumbler, and act as a scraper to remove matter that has been softened by the water.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The combination, with a circular brush, of two rubber wings, F, arranged upon oppositesides ot' said brush and projecting a little beyond the bristles thereof, substantially as described. A v
2. A device for cleaning tumblers, consisting;` of the head A, formed of two sections, A A2, rubber wings F, secured between the said sections, and bristles D,'all constructed substantially as shown, and for the. purposes set forth.
` EDWARD PERUIVAL.
