SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,844, dated August 15, 1899.
Application filed December 28,1897 Serial No. 664,024. (Model.)
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WILLIAM BARRATT, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at High street,IfVimbo1ne, in the county of Dorset, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brushes, (for which a complete specification was lodged on October 25, 1897, and accepted on December 4, 1897, for Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 3,260, dated February 8, 1897, and also a model patent, No. 82,015, dated August 30, 1897, in Germany, has been granted,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in brushes adaptable to general purposes, but more especially suitable for the cleaning of culinary articles, saucepans, dairy utensils, and the like.
The drawing shows a plan View ot the invention.
To make my brush, I take a piece of Wood or other material of suitable size for the particular brush required-say (for descriptive purpose only) four inches by four inches by one inch thickand fix by suitable means into two sections of the edges at right angles (see accompanying drawing at A and B) bristles, bass, ber, or other suitable cleaning materials, and for the handle I cut a hole of such size and shape (see drawing'at C) as to be double-handed-that is, used in two different Ways--so that each of the brush edges may be alternately used on the sides and bottom of the utensil being cleaned. y
The accompanying drawingis submitted as an example only of the manner in which my invention is carried out; but the'pwidth of brush-surfaces will vary accordingto the purpose for which the brush is intended to be used, and when necessary the handle may be made separate, in Wood or metal,and attached to the brush-sections by screws or otherwise.
Having now particularly described and as-` certained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is-V A brush composed of a polygonal, flat block out away inthe interior so as to form a grip from any of several of the edges and bristles attached to the opposite edges, substantially as described.
