No. 403,522. Patented May 21, 1889.
Wi'h'LEESE s I I ITL'V'E Mar: @w aaw UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. DU BUISSON, OF FLUSHING, NEW YORK.
SICRAPEIR OR CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,522, dated May 21, 1889. Application filed July 23, 1888. Serial No, 280,839. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. DU BUIS- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the town of Flushing, in the county of Queens and the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Scraper or Cleaner, which is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a cross-section taken 011 Fig. 1 on line The object of my invention is to construct a scraper or cleaner to be used in cleaning all kinds of pans, kettles, pots, or other receptacles used for cooking or other purposes, where the article cooked or compounded therein adheres to the surface and cannot be removed by washing; and it consists of a blade or blank of irregular figure cut from steel or other suitable material, and provided with an adj ustablehandle, (attached to or near the center thereof) formed by bending the material upon itself in such a manner as to form a spring at its top, which handle, owing to its adjustability, can be swung entirely around the blade, enabling the operator to bring into use any desired angle or edge thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the blade provided with edges F, G, H, and I, each of different angle and length for the purpose of entering the irregular configuration of the kettle or pet to be cleaned, the edge I being continued in a curved line until it meets the straight edge F, forming the obtuse point L.
B is the handle, secured near the center of of the blank A by a rivet, E, and adjustable to any edge thereof, and provided at its top with a spring, D, which causes each side to fit snugly to the sides of the blank in any position it may be placed.
C is a hole in the handle by which the article may be hung up.
By the peculiar construction of the handle the blank A is prevented from slipping, and each edge thereof can readily be brought into service.
It will be seen that any suitable form of handle may be used, or any other shape or configuration can be given to the blade without departing from the spirit of my invention, and, owing to the different edges and angles of the scraper, it can be used in cleaning a receptacle of any configuration.
Having thus described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure, is
A scraper or cleaner composed of blade A, provided with irregular edges G H I F and point L, and an adjustable handle, B, attached near the center thereof, said handle being formed by bending the material upon itself in such a manner as to form a spring, D, at its top, which causes the two sides thereof to fit snugly to the sides of the blade, for the purpose substantially as shown and described.
GEORGE H. DU BUISSON.
