Description
Feb.. 28, 1950 I I v J, GENTlLE 2,498,803
POT CLEANER Filed NOV. 12, 1946 game/MM VINCE/V201 GENT/LE Patented Feb. 28, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE POT CLEANER Vincenzo James Gentile, Hartford, Conn.
Application November 12, 1946, Serial No. 709,223
2 Claims. (01. 15-164) My invention relates to kitchen utensils and more particularly to a cleaner for pots, pans and the like.
The object of my invention is to provide a cleaner for pots and the like consisting in a metal brush equipped with a handle to prevent the hands of the operator coming in touch with the pots or pans, or the grease adhering thereto or with the soapy water, etc.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cleaner of the character indicated above,v the handle whereof is adapted to be adjusted to any desired angle to facilitate the cleaning of corners, curves and the like portions of pots, pans and the like, which are usually diflicult to be cleaned.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention.
It is however to be understood, that my invention is not to be limited or restricted to the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown in the drawings but that such changes and modifications can be made, which fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pot cleaner according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the cleaner shown in Figure 1.
Referring now in detail to the pot cleaner forming the subject matter of my invention, the cleaner has brush member l consisting of a substantially rectangular back II, in which a plurality of tufts of metal bristles 12 are imbedded. The back I I may be made from wood, non-rusting metal or any other suitable and preferred material, and the bristles can be made from thin stainless steel or brass wire or any other suitable metal wire.
A U-shaped frame [3 is made from stainless steel or any other non-rusting suitable material and is secured to the end surfaces of the back II of the brush member H], by means of countersunk screws I 4 or the like, extending through the flanges [5 of the U-shaped frame l3. These flanges l5 extend rearwardly beyond the back I I of the brush member 10.
A handle I 6 is formed from a flat bar of stainless steel or the like by bending this bar centrally of its length into a loop [1. The bar portions l8 located forwardly of the loop I! extrend straight forwardly and parallel to each other and are secured in abutting position to each other by a rivet l9 or the like.
Then the two bar portions are curved outwardly '2 and forwardly, as shown at 20, and the foremost portions 2| of the handle I6 extend straight forwardly and parallel to each and are secured pivotally by means of rivets 22 to the portions of the flanges [5 of the U-shaped frame l3 extending beyond the brush back II.
The above description shows clearly, that the brush member i0 and the handle iii are adapted to be adjusted relative to each other, so as to obtain the most advantageous angle for cleaning corners, curves and the like in pots or pans or the like. The handle can be arranged, so that the hand wielding the cleaner does not come in contact with pot or pan to be cleaned, or with any greaseor the like adhering thereto or with the fluid used for cleaning. The character of the bristle material combines the brushing effect with a scrubbing effect, assuring a thorough cleaning of the article treated with cleaner described above.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a. cleaner for pots, pans and the like, comprising a brush back having a plurality of tufts of bristles projecting therefrom, a U-shaped member having the limbs thereof attached to the ends of the brush back and a handle connected to said limbs, the features which include having the intermediate yoke portion of the U-shaped member projecting forwardly of and spaced from the brush back and said limbs extending rearwardly of said brush back to terminate in rearwardly-projecting ends, and having the handle connected to the latter ends rearwardly of said brush back.
2. A cleaner for pots, pans and the like, including a brush back having a plurality of tufts of bristles projecting therefrom, a U-shaped member partly enveloping the brush back with the yoke portion thereof projecting forwardly of the latter and spaced therefrom and the limbs thereof attached to the ends of the brush back and terminating rearwardly of the latter in two rearwardlyprojecting ends, and a handle attached to said rearwardly-projecting ends rearwardly of said brush back.
