Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 13, 1906.
Application filed June 25, 1906- Serial No. 323,273.
educating and habituating the user of the.
brush in imparting thereto a downward movement when in use on the upper teeth and an upward movementwhen in use on the lower teeth, as hereinafter described and claimed. I
In the accompanying drawingsfFigure 1 is a perspective view of a tooth-brush eminner sides of the brush-handle. The recess Y bodying my improvements. I transverse sectional view taken through the handle of the same on the v ilane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 1, and view taken on the line b b of Fig. 1.
The head 1 of the brush'is preferably relatively short, as here shown. The length of said head ma however, be 'varied .at will, and I do not imit myself in this particular. Tlie handle 2 is here shown as comparative y sides. In opposite sides of the handle at opposite edges thereof and at a suitable d18- ig. 3 is a similar plane indicated by the 'tance from the brush-head are a pair of recesses 3 4, the bottoms of which are longitudi nally curved, said recesses being, in effect, chamfers of suitable length, the-bottoms of which are substantially parallel with each other. and are laterally at substantially an angle of forty-five degrees to the outer and Fig. 2 is a straight and as flattened on'opposite' recess 4 is for the reception of the forefinger X -of the left hand of the user when using the brush on the lower teeth, and the location,
arrangement, and shape of such recesses is such asto enable the user to readily impart the required ulgilvard movement to the bris- I tleswhen brus g the lowerteeth.
At a suitable distance from the pair of recesses 3 4 are similar recesses 5 6, which are reversely arranged with reference thereto and are respectively for the rece tion of the thumb and forefinger of the rig t hand when the brush is being used on the upper teeth to enable the user to readily give the required downward movement of the bristles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A tooth-brush having its handle provided in its opposite side edges with a cesses for the reception of the t umb and forefinger of the left hand, the bottoms of said recesses beingsubstantially parallel with reference to each other and at substantially an an le of forty-five degrees to the general plane of the handle, the latter being further provided in its opposite .side edges with a similar pair of recesses, for the reception of the thumb and forefinger of the right hand, the bottoms of said right-hand recesses being reversely arranged with referenceto those of the contiguous left-hand recesses.
In testimony whereof I have signed my OHAUNOEYMD. MILLER.
pair of rename to this specification in thepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
